The Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee (DPTAC) plays a critical role in advising the government on matters related to accessible transportation, ensuring that disabled people have the same opportunities to travel as everyone else. As Chair, I am excited to work with the rest of the committee to build on the progress that has already been made and to identify new opportunities to improve transportation for disabled people. One of my key priorities in this role will be to ensure that the voices of disabled people and their carers are heard, and that their needs are taken into account in all transportation planning and decision-making. I am also committed to promoting innovation and creativity in transportation, finding new and better ways to make transportation more accessible and inclusive for everyone.

The Expert Advisory Panel (EAP) is an external advisory panel to the Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles’ (CCAV) programme of work to ensure safety and security assurance for Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs). The programme is called CAVPASS (Connected and Automated Vehicles Process for Assuring Safety and Security).The EAP is a group of experts outside government that provides strategic advice to the CAVPASS programme board and senior team in CCAV responsible for delivering the programme.The panel will help the CCAV team and the CAVPASS programme Board to deliver the aims of the CAVPASS programme, which are to:develop technical standards and regulations necessary to ensure safe and secure trialling, sale and ongoing roadworthiness of CAVsdevelop the necessary testing and approvals processes to assess a CAV’s compliance with the applicable standards and regulations for safety and cybersecuritydevelop and adapt rules on safe use, for example, insurance, driver education and enforcementensure government has the skills and capabilities, and access to the assets needed to deliver safe and secure CAVsunderstand the new and ever-changing cybersecurity risks of CAVs and designing an approach to maximise CAV cybersecurity resiliencedevelop the interim safety and security assurance processes and guidance needed to enable safe advanced trials on UK roads in time to meet industry needs.

AsProfessor of Novel Technology Design and Adoption I lead the teaching of the MSci in Novel medical technology design, regulation and adoption. Supported by my excellent colleagues Medical School, and drawing on my experience with NICE, the MHRA, and many more across healthcare, I conceived, designed, and wrote this MSci to better prepare medical, dental, and engineering studentsfor work in the medical technology sector.In it's first complete year I was ecstatic to learn that external moderation confirmed the entire cohort had achieved Firsts - all highly deserved!

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, I designed, with clinical collaboration, the AerosolSHIELD as an aerosol barrier between infected patients and medical staff.Within 7 days, from being alerted of the clinical need at 7:15pm on Friday 27th March, I designed the product, had multiple proofs of concept tested, stood up a team of medical technology specialists, found a suitable manufacturer, launched the product to the market with full complement of online support, and took initial orders.

In partnership with national disability charity Motability, the Department for Transport (DfT) has commissioned the British Standards Institution (BSI) to develop accessibility standards for EV chargepoints across the country. These standards will provide industry with guidance and drivers with a new clear definition of ‘fully accessible’, ‘partially accessible’ and ‘not accessible’ public EV chargepoints.

Push Doctor is the UK’s largest digital health provider, and is transforming the way patientsaccess their GP. They provide safe, effective and secure consultations to patients via asmartphone app and website, with an average waiting time of just minutes.Push Doctor want to engage national organisations who represent the views of people usinghealth services, in a forum of c.20, to listen to feedback about their product, understandhow their services can better align to peoples’ needs, and discuss general views of digitalhealthcare and its future in the system. Advising on a limited term project looking at how to review medical apps for the Health Sector. Four 'Health Application Briefings' (HABs) were produced to test a new design. I was recruited following on from my work as Lead Independent Member for Mobile Health Apps as part of the National Information Board for the Department of Health and my experience as a member of the Medical Technologies Advisory Committee for NICE.

The National Information Board is a £4.5 Billion project setting out the strategy and direction for the health and care system on technology and information. The strategic direction agreed by the National Information Board will steer the priorities and commissioning for technology and information services delivered by the HSCIC and other agencies, and partner organisations.I was the lead Independent Board Member for digital applications ('apps') adoption and NHS WiFi throughout design to commencement of roll out.

Founding director and subsequently Managing Director of Cornwall's first business mentoring network for disabled and disadvantaged entrepreneurs.The Mentors DEN CIC was formed to assist disabled and disadvantaged entrepreneurs to set up and run their own business across the South West. After operating for nearly nine years, needs for assistance by this Community Interest Company dwindled and the company was closed in early 2017.

Trustee/Director of the largest and most dynamic Mobility Centre with the biggest range of services within the UK Forum of Mobility Centres, to which the Centre is fully accredited, and the first purpose built mobility centre in Europe. The Cornwall Mobility Centre, a Registered Charity, provides a range of specialist services and equipment for people throughout the South West Peninsula to help with independent mobility.The relief of poverty and distress among disabled persons, in particular, by providing or assisting in the provision of mobility aids.The provision to such persons of equipment, for the purpose of increasing their mobility, and the provision of training in the use of such equipment.Designed a national licensing system for users of mobility scooters to reduce injury and death through misuse and poor training.Member of the Marketing Committee, advising on brand and digital, public and media profile, resulting in an increase in footfall within my first year.Consulted on design of revolutionary mobility aid for beaches. Designed and advised on a trial of paperless services for sales and the Independent Living departments.

Using my experience in public engagement, equality and my knowledge of technology, I work as a non clinical adviser on recommendations to the use of new and existing medicines and treatments within the NHS in England and Wales, such as: medicines medical devices (for example, hearing aids or inhalers) diagnostic techniques (tests used to identify diseases) surgical procedures (for example, repairing hernias) health promotion activities (for example, ways of helping people with diabetes manage their condition).

Advising on equality issues facing the NHS, specifically with regards to accessing treatments and care.The Equality Forum works with all minority groups that wish to be involved, such as race, physical or mental health, sexuality, sex, age, financial or educational status or geographical location.Our work directly influences NICE and the Department of Health with relation to public engagement and ensuring equality of access throughout the NHS.

Marketing and PR consultant to SME's concentrating on maximising natural exposure through community, media and third sector engagement.Design and implement novel approaches to digital engagement enabling clients to better engage with customers and suppliers. This work has allowed SME's to tailor their products and services to their customers needs and increase sales with minimum marketing costs.In a recent project for a medium sized business in the South West, my advice on how to run a Twitter account and what to cover in it has directly led to sales growth, new business partnerships and continued media engagement. This work has so far shown a profit of more than 800% over marketing costs.

Working as part of a board of 13, the Regional Audience Councils advise the BBC Trust, whose role is to put licence fee payers' concerns at the heart of the BBC.Running public engagement workshops to feedback information to the BBC on public perception of current services and issues arising.

Responsible for the sales and marketing departments of two glossy lifestyle magazines - one international - and one printed business directory, I joined Cornish World Media on a temporary basis.I joined at a time of flux and when the company was facing closure. I designed new features for the flagship magazine, Cornish World - an internationally read magazine aimed at the diaspora of Cornwall and visitors to Cornwall - and led a successful brand redesign which increased sales of advertising, advertorial space and readership.I worked with a very talented editorial team to incorporate new features which enabled the magazine to engage with new and more profitable market sectors.Following this I was part of the working group which, following my success at improving the sales and advertising revenue, enabled the holding company to sell the entire business at a highly favourable rate, ensuring the continuation of the company and jobs of many of the staff.

Crowcon is one of the leading companies in Oil and Gas detection. Having been at the forefront of the business for over 25 years, new competition forced the company to take a more aggressive stance on marketing it products internationally. Reporting directly to the Director of Global Sales and Marketing I collated and interpreted the sales data from across the world and designed new product release information.

In order to improve my understanding of public engagement I spent 2 years with this fast paced business.I joined as an assistant manager of one of the flagship Blacks stores and oversaw the design, integration and first year of running of Blacks online dispatch department.The main store had over 30 staff, many of whom were low skilled and temporary which meant regular focus on team building and product training. Blacks is renowned as a high end shop, prosumer for outdoor adventure and as a result much of the product line required detailed technical knowledge and experience.Annual turnover exceeded £3Million for the main shop and £200k for the first year of online dispatch.During my time with Blacks I was often required to aid other shops across the UK as a consultant and trouble-shooter. I would visit shops that were seen to be failing or having managerial issues in order to aid and advise staff and the head office on how best to proceed. On rare occasions this involved disciplinary proceedings but usually my work and advise on sales training enabled stores to improve their overall ratings.During my time at Blacks Oxford the store went from languishing at the bottom of the company wide sales performance table - around 85th - to being first.
