Interning at the Research and Policy department of the Netherlands Institute for Human Rights I wrote advisory notes to i.a. parliamentary committees and performed (legal) research into human rights-related strategic topics of the Dutch NHRI. Also I contributed to the NHRI's mandate by writing short pieces informing the public on for example the implications of AI on people with disabilities, or the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) process (see annexed articles). Other tasks included contributing to the annual CRPD-monitor and representing the Institute among civil society and several Dutch ministries at the national consultation of the UPR.
The United Netherlands Delegation gets taught the theory and practice of multilateral diplomacy. The Delegation stands out compared to other student programs, as it not only includes skills training and international MUN conferences, but also an academic course accredited by the Radboud University with 10 ECTS.The combination of theory, practice, and personal goals prepares the Delegation for the Model United Nations Conferences of Oxford University and Harvard University.
MIND Young Academy is a collaboration of Diversion with MIND. On a project basis, I went into conversations with secondary school pupils and secondary vocational education students to challenge their thinking and internalized assumptions on i.a. (the taboo on) mental health, symptoms, how they could offer help to someone in need, and where (and when) to find professional help when needed.
MoneyWays is a collaboration between Diversion and Nibud on a Dutch national educational approach to improve the financial education youngsters receive. On a project-basis I challenged the knowledge and thinking of secondary school pupils and vocational education students on the controversialities and practicalities of i.a. poverty, debt, budgeting, stigma and monetary habits. This was done on a project basis by visiting these institutions for three weeks in a row.

For my internship at the Verwey-Jonker institute I was part of the societal participation research group, working on research topics such as the integration of (audiovisually impaired) refugees, parenting styles in recent refugee families, and municipal pilots on employment participation of women. After the original Project Manager stepped down, I was chosen by both our supervisor and the former manager to take on the role. This decision was based on my strong performance as Project Controller, where I demonstrated the skills and dedication needed to lead the team effectively. As part of my MSc Health and Society program, the Academic Consultancy Training is about tackling a commissioner's problem with an interdisciplinary team. The project I took up was I Fly Vegan (now called FlyPlantbased due to our results), whose mission it is to serve plant-based plane meals by default. We looked into why airlines are currently not serving plant-based plane meals by default, but also the extent to which serving plant-based meals on planes could serve as a minor compensation to the footprint of flying, as well as how a plant-based plane meal compares to an omnivorous plane meal in terms of ecological footprint.

Global One Health (GOH) was Wageningen University and Research’s investment theme for the period of 2014-2018. For ‘The Social Nature of Global One Health’ project, I made a systematic inventory of the role (extent and nature) of project-based supradisciplinary collaborations between the social sciences and life sciences within GOH. Activities included: conducting interviews, analysing results, writing reports, and presenting the results at the GOH symposium.
With the week-long spring school (lenteschool) initiative, pupils who were failing a subject came to school in their holiday to work on the course in the hopes of passing it and being able to progress to the following year. I supervised pupils in this process in both subjects of English and Dutch. I helped with their motivation, planning and other study skills, as well as having provided them with knowledge regarding the subject they had to pass.
I trained secondary school pupils in their reading, extracting, and analytic skills so they could tackle their Dutch and English exams. I have managed classes, provided guidance and helped with pupils' motivation and self-confidence.

Morgen, or Studenten voor Morgen, is a Dutch national overarching organization that tries to make higher education more sustainable in every way possible. Activities as Board Member Higher Education, besides general board activities, consisted of coordinating Studenten voor Morgen’s largest project (the SustainaBul: a Dutch national sustainability ranking organized and executed for and by students), co-organising the NDDHO symposium - now called Groene Peper, organising workshops and being Morgen's point of contact for higher education institutions. During this board year, mostly I learned to balance expectations, prioritize and be able to zoom in and out of situations and contexts.
I taught dyslexic secondary school pupils in English and Dutch. I helped them with their skills in the languages, but most rewarding (both for me personally as well as represented in their grades) was the obvious overall increase in motivation and self-confidence in them.
By organizing projects at secondary schools throughout the Netherlands and educational trips to other cultures, Cross Your Borders (CYB) tries to make the youth aware of injustice and poverty in the world, and the role these youngsters themselves have in this. With several projects on various topics aimed at all secondary school educational levels, I ran different projects in classrooms, managed classes, motivated students to participate, provided them with knowledge, helped them connect the dots, and challenged their thinking. Towards the end of my internship I was in the process of becoming a project-assistant. Also, I ran the social media accounts of CYB's internal travel agency Fairaway, and recruited participants for these trips. I represented CYB at internship and business fairs at universities, and at the national holiday fair in the Netherlands.
