Profile bio

About Prof Cam Wareham

About:I’m an Independent Arbitrator & Mediator. I work across many areas but increasingly concentrate on matters related to Healthcare & Life Sciences. That can mean mediation between clinicians & patients, clinical teams, hospitals & service providers. Where parties need an Expert decision on a matter, I combine Medical & Legal skills to Arbitrate highly complex & legally challenging issues which may be of high value or of International interest. This may span Bio-Tech, Pharmaceutical, R&D, Contract or Medical Device failure / IP issues. My unique skill set has me featuring on WIPO, ICC & CIArb Arbitrator panels . Following qualification in Podiatric Medicine & Surgery from the University of Westminster, I spent time working in UK Hospitals, in Podiatric Surgery, ED, Anaesthesia, Medicine & Surgery until I completed my Fellowship exams with the Royal College of Podiatrists & the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons (Glasgow). I ‘fell’ into University teaching, gaining a Doctorate of Medical Science & ending up as a Professor of Healthcare & Law. As an 'academic clinician' having practiced surgery, I have a passion for Law and its relationship to Medicine, Surgery, Negligence & Bio-Tech. For many years, I’ve acted as an Expert Opinion in Clinical Negligence matters. Why Dispute Resolution: Healthcare & Life Sciences disputes are fraught with emotion, injury & worry. Parties are often 'Unequal'. My experience as a key opinion leader, allows me to assist parties in the mediation or negotiation, to 'find their voice’ in a way that brings out their Interests. The complexity of a Life Science or contract dispute often means that the Arbitration requires an Arbitrator who possesses both the technical & legal expertise to determine matters in a safe & efficient way. I provide both perspectives, meaning a better, well-rounded, economical & efficient process, allowing parties control of the outcome. Highlights:- 20+ Years of Expertise: Seasoned provider of Opinion & Decisions in Complex & Technically demanding international Healthcare & Life Science Disputes. - Global Network: A worldwide approach having been appointed & instructed in England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Australia & New Zealand. - Thought Leadership: in Podiatric Medicine & Surgery (Foot & Ankle), having taught in a number of prestigious global Universities. Professor of Healthcare and Law - Legal Academic Beyond Work:I like Snow & Rugby! If not skiing, I'm ‘pitch-side’ supporting local rugby. Having put my boots away, I now sit as an RFU Disciplinary Tribunal member.

Listed skills include Healthcare, New Business Development, Surgery, Treatment, and 27 others.

Arbitration•Mediation•Expert Determination

Current

London, England, United Kingdom

WarehamAdreani provides Independent Arbitration, Mediation, Expert Determination and Expert Witness services globally. In addition to Arbitrating contractual disputes between international parties (most recently between a Mexican party and an Irish based party-under the English Arbitration Act 1996) my role as an Arbitrator, Mediator and Expert Witness with WarehamAdreani is focused on the Life Science and Healthcare sector. I have successfully mediated numerous disputes between healthcare organizations and patients, addressed staff concerns and departmental disputes globally. I am frequently asked my opinion on matters early on in the litigation process to determine merits or potential quantum of a case. Most notably, I recently facilitated negotiations during the merger of two large specialist healthcare (surgical) representative bodies in Australia following a contentious 25 year dispute. I have acted as a ‘trouble shooter’ in departments in two large NHS hospitals and in a University Hospital department in Australia. My expertise extends to advising on clinical negligence cases, where I’ve been called upon as an expert witness for both claimants and defendants in well over 100 cases. I have provided written and oral testimony in allegations of improper behaviour to healthcare tribunals and disciplinary boards at both international and national levels.I have been asked to chair a number of committees involving issues of clinical governance and chaired regulatory investigation panels both in the UK and abroad. I have taught and spoken on topics with a medico-legal focus to a number of professional medical audiences in conference and university settings.
