I worked as a Graduate Research Assistant for the Department of Sociology on a joint grant with the Department of Nutritional Sciences investigating obesity patterns and nutrition among members of the Chickasaw Tribe in Oklahoma. Our research focused on the relationship between poverty, single-parent households, the reliance on government food assistance programs, and how individuals perceived food and obesity. The study used traditional qualitative and quantitative methods, as well as photovoice. • Conducted academic literature review for ongoing research grant. • Attended meetings regarding data collection and analysis, but I was primarily responsible for conducting quality assurance reviews of the literature used for articles printed in academic journals.

As the Prevention Coordinator within the Ryan White Clinic, my responsibilities consisted of Coordinating the HIV Testing, Counseling, and Referral Services activities within the medical clinic and in outreach settings; Supervising HIV Test Counselors, Outreach, and In-Reach personnel; Applying the protocol of the CDC’s ‘Prevention with Positives’ Initiative within the HIV Prevention component of the Ryan White Clinic; Working with social services agencies to promote HIV Prevention and Testing; Researching the unique HIV Prevention needs of the HIV-Positive Community in Tulsa; Developing HIV Prevention Programs based on my research; Writing culturally-relevant training protocol and manuals used to train HIV Prevention Outreach Workers; Creating and Promoting ‘Positive Health’ Messages to HIV-Positive MSM . As a Women’s Outreach Specialist, I worked in a grant-funded position to provide HIV Testing, Counseling, and Referral Services to women at high-risk for HIV Infection within the Greater Tulsa Area. I established relationships with social service agencies and individuals in order to network with and locate high-risk women and their partners with the goal of educating women about HIV, STDs, and Hepatitis C, distributing safer sex and harm reduction supplies, and offering HIV Testing and Counseling services. • Provided HIV testing and counseling to high-risk women and their partners.• Coordinated with various social service and government agencies, such as Domestic Violence Intervention Services, Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centers, the Day Center for the Homeless, and David L.
