I currently serve as campus Principal at Trinity Basin Preparatory, located in the Dallas Oak Cliff area. At TBP, we believe every child can succeed and support dedicated teachers to foster an environment of achievement and success. Launching in 2017, I co-designed and implemented a district literacy program, Literacy for Life. Literacy for Life provides teachers with needed educational supports to ensure our students are equipped with strong foundations of literacy that allows students to read from the earliest grades through high school graduation and beyond. Through high visibility and intentional instructional support, I have established consistency among staff to deliver a curriculum that meets the differentiated needs of all students. As a result, student achievement continues to rise, evident by double-digit gains in STAAR math results, as well as, gains in reading and writing. I previously served as principal of at Roger Q. Mills Elementary School in Dallas, Texas located near the Dallas Zoo in Oak Cliff. Serving 475 students in a low socio-economic area, I inherited Mills, during the 3rd year of an Improvement Required rating and monitoring by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). I began my principal position after reconstitution at the beginning of year 3, which included an instructional audit by TEA and presenting to the Associate Commissioner of Education. I personally hired 85% of the current staff which includes 80% of classroom teachers with 1-2 years of experience. During the past two years I have lead change by implementing a comprehensive instructional action plan based on the foundation of 21st century learning, implemented a balanced assessment framework, and created a positive climate and culture.
