About Candice Nelson

I am currently a Communications Manager for the Center on Education Data and Policy at the Urban Institute. I previously worked as a policy associate at EducationCounsel, a mission-based consulting firm. I graduated in 2017 with a Masters of Education in Education Policy and Management from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. My coursework prepared me for work on federal education policy and higher education administration and policy. I am a Duke alumna, Class of 2016, with a Bachelor of Arts in History, with a minor in education. My ultimate career goal is to work in the sphere of education, specifically in policy, research, or higher education. My prior experience in the private, non-profit, and government sectors has enabled me to learn how to successfully work in various job environments. My history background has strengthened my research abilities while my education background has helped in learning how to apply research to policy. My particular interests lie in K-12 education policy reform, which I was especially able to draw upon at my time in the Arizona Department of Education, but my work in higher education administration and admissions has also enlightened me on the nuances of the college admissions process and issues of access to higher education.
