Iβve been writing; creating stories, worlds, and characters; and being concerned about whatβs right and best in the world around us since I was a little girl.βGirls with dreams become women with vision.β ~UnknownWhen our teachers asked the proverbial question in 4th grade, βWhat do you want to be when you grow up?β I answered:ππ½ a nunππ½ an attorneyππ½ the 1st Black woman POTUSππππ½While Iβve not followed those exact childhood-inspired paths, I have pursued a life that reflects the essences of those interests. I AM an ordained pastor, and Iβm always the one advocating for whatβs right in the midst of whatβs wrong. (Often I get to serve in positions of power that allow me to make transformative decisions.) And when I can do that on behalf of actual people rather than for a general principle, I AM beyond happy β and honored.In 4th grade I had not yet figured out that I was good enough at writing and creating to make that a professional ambition. And once I did, I realized that my passions for faith and justice always showed up on the page β no matter how much I endeavored to lighten it up a little.So today, Iβve landed in another nuance of my world of blending art and wellness for social impact. I AM on my way to becoming a licensed arts therapist! π€π₯°ππ½β¨π»Working in community Iβve learned that nothing happens (or sticks) without the will of the people. And for us people to choose best β even for ourselves β we must be healthy and whole. Anyone touched by this American experiment has been traumatized, and if weβre going to live up to the ideals of this country, weβve got some healing to do. My hope and intention is to contribute meaningfully to this collective requirement for moving forward.While Iβm FT towards my MA in Somatic Counseling with a Concentration in Dance/Movement, I AM also available for freelance gigs: writing, creating, consulting β¦ you know! ππ€ What a journey this has been to date, and I look forward with wonder and deep appreciation to the rest as it unfolds.Thank you for taking some time to learn a bit about me.
