I am Oak!As the oak begins as a tiny acorn, so I began my foray into the computing industry. I remember traveling to the COOP in southern Indiana to purchase a 5.25" floppy disk that I could use on the schools Apple IIe. The apple didn't allow you to do much by today's standards, but provided my first glimpse into future possibilities. My roots began to grow.Upon entering the navy, many technology devices were in their infancy. The NTDS system allowed users to track information on multiple targets. I remember seeing how my roots in computing, from that Apple, related directly to the end result of this fantastic system. I became a sapling, with roots firmly planted in the digital soil. After the navy, I began looking at how to apply my experiences to the real world. I began work for a startup, ECT. ECT won a contract with NASA to build a system named RVPS. I worked to implement the radar video processing system which is used to replay data and track items as they fall back to earth. This experience finalized my planting of roots.I was a young oak, fully developed, still growing. I began work for Software City, a computer re-seller. As lead repair technician, I was exposed to a vast array of issues. From failed drives to corrupt software, resolving these issues provided insights and knowledge I carry with me to this day.For several years I worked at various system administration levels, from ensuring backups to implementing automated tasks to ensuring security. I began as a Windows administrator, but quickly incorporated Linux and Unix administration. The ways in which the Linux/Unix and Windows operating systems differed provided a great insight into OS operation and vulnerabilities. Finally, my experience at TCS has proven to be one of the most rewarding and challenging branches of my career. As the acorn, my career began in the darkness. With support of family, friends, mentors and coworkers, I have grown into a mighty oak, prepared to weather any storm!
