Profile bio

About Candy Priano

I’m sharing my completed memoir, "Fifteen Forever," with literary agents, seeking representation to get it published. My memoir about police chases and society’s acceptable collateral damage chronicles my life being ripped apart when a police chase ends with the killing of my daughter, Kristie, an innocent bystander. This preventable tragedy tests my faith in God and the justice system. Empowered with knowledge and an increasingly impressive group of allies, I take to the media, the courts, and the legislature to fix an unjust police chase law so it never happens to another. I persevere to save lives, including my own."Fifteen Forever" also introduces you to others like me suffering from unnecessary and preventable deaths of loved ones who had nothing to do with the chase. Soon after I placed an orange rose on my daughter Kristie’s casket, people told me to move on, to accept it. Not one to walk away from unanswered questions, I searched for solutions to save innocent lives. I had no idea what ugly obstacles lie in my path—or what beauty lies in the generosity and bravery of the people who fight with me to prevent the tragedy of pursuit.Professional Speaker: https://www.pursuitsafety.org/about/speakers/candy-priano/I founded PursuitSAFETY, a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, committed to preventing the tragedy of vehicular police pursuits. Our mission is to save the lives of innocent bystanders and police officers. PursuitSAFETY provides help and support to families throughout the world. Knowing that teens are among the highest group of drivers who flee, I speak to teenagers about the need for them to “Pull Over and Have No Regrets.”I have given my presentation, “The Other Side of the Windshield,” to officers at law enforcement conferences and academies. “Faith: Before and During Tragedy” is the very personal side of my life. The audiences “meet” Kristie through video and excerpts from her journals. My family of four became innocent victims of a 2002 police pursuit crash that took the life of my daughter, Kristie, 15. Kristie was always raising her hand to volunteer in her community, school and church. She was an honor student, an athlete, and a joy. About a week before she went home to Heaven, Kristie learned about the Columbine tragedy. Kristie shared how one of the Columbine victims would not deny Jesus and that she (Kristie) was not afraid to die because in that instant, she would be with Jesus. I commented as any mother would, “Oh, Kristie, Jesus won’t let that happen. He knows I could never live without you.”

Listed skills include Leadership, Public Relations, Enforcement, Police, and 15 others.

We work with law enforcement to reduce—and one day prevent—the on-going tragedies that repeat themselves as a result of crashes due to police pursuits and police response calls.People have come into my life as a result of our shared tragedies. Others have come into my life because they simply care and have the gift of understanding without having to experience the tragedy of pursuit. I often find myself referring to these people as "my family." PursuitSAFETY, the only national nonprofit organization of its kind, supports and provides needed services to bereaved families and injured innocent victims of pursuit!I speak to groups of all sizes, from all walks of life, about the inherent risk of vehicular police pursuits; pursuits that all too often result in death and life-altering injuries to innocent bystanders and officers. She addresses the impact these deaths have on the families left behind. I have spent the last decade extensively researching police pursuit policies, procedures and practices. My most important research comes from listening—listening to law-abiding Americans who never thought such a tragedy, the deaths of loved ones, could happen to them. I continue to search for the delicate balance between catching drivers who flee and public safety. Please my daughter's story at KristiesLaw.org. Show less

Founded PursuitSAFETY, a national nonprofit organization, in 2007. Research includes a decade of analyzing thousands of pursuit stories and identifying how the outcome of some police pursuits could have ended in a safer way—without the death of an officer or innocent bystander. Gives credit for her extensive knowledge to officers who have and continue to share their expertise with her. "The Other Side of the Windshield" provides law enforcement trainers, street officers, recruits, and government safety officers with a unique perspective on the need to provide more protection to innocent bystanders. "Faith: Before & During Tragedy" is for all groups and organizations because no one thinks it will happen to them. Just 15 years old, Kristie led a giving life. She reached out to others, served many volunteer roles, and spread her joy throughout her home and community. Candy reads entries from Kristie’s journals and shares her own and Kristie’s walk with the Lord. "Pull Over; Have No Regrets" needs to be included in every driver training class for teens. Every day teenagers flee from the police; they kill the innocent, their best friends and themselves. If one teen makes the decision to pull over instead of fleeing from the police, then "Pull Over; Have No Regrets" is a success!Candy Priano shares many stories with officers and the public. She says, “I was helpless to save my daughter Kristie’s life, but I believe her story will save the lives of others.”For more information: http://www.pursuitsafety.org/images/Candy_presentations.pdf Show less
