In 2023, Can was awarded International Arbitration Junior of the Year by both the Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners, having been shortlisted in that area in 2019, and as International Law Junior of the Year in 2022. He has also been featured as one of ten “Stars at the Bar” practising at the Commercial Bar, where he was identified as one of “the Bar’s true polymaths…able to advocate in a wide variety of legal areas, with seemingly effortless fluency”. He has been appointed to serve as an expert on English commercial law and public international law in several domestic court proceedings and international arbitrations.Can is a member of the Law Faculties at Columbia Law School (New York), Georgetown University Law Center (Washington D.C.), and Koç University Law School (Istanbul), where he teaches and co-teaches courses on international arbitration, international human rights law, and public international law. Can is also a Fellow of the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law at the University of Cambridge and a Senior Fellow at Columbia Law School’s Human Rights Institute.In 2019, Can was appointed by the Lord Neuberger of Abbotsbury (President of the UK Supreme Court, 2012-2017) to The High Level Panel of Legal Experts on Media Freedom, the independent advisory body to the Media Freedom Coalition of States, co-chaired by Estonia and the Netherlands. In 2021, Can succeeded Amal Clooney as the High Level Panel’s Deputy Chair, alongside Catherine Amirfar.
