Acted as part of team of medical scientists to maintain a high standard of testing of COVID-19 samples. In this lab we carried out RNA extractions and conducted Real time-PCR while adhering to a strict turnover time to deliver results to patients in a timely fashion. I assisted laboratory technicians with PCR testing for the Irish Health Service Executive (HSE) by preparing samples for testing and organising samples post-testing. I also became proficient in the use of the laboratory information management systems (LIMS) that was in place in the laboratory. Shortly after beginning my role (September 2021), I was promoted to Team Lead. This promotion came with an increase in responsibilities such as assigning specific roles to team members, monitoring their performance, problem solving, and attending weekly team lead meetings with the head of the molecular department.

Completed my final year research project in Associate Professor Marguerite Clyne's microbiology lab in Health Sciences, UCD. The research project was titled "Phenotyping strains of Campylobacter jejuni isolated from chickens". During the course of this research project I refined my lab skills carrying out western blots, gel electrophoresis, gentamicin assays, immunofluorescence microscopy, plating of C. jejuni, practicing sterilisation techniques, and much more. I presented my findings concisely in a 6,000 word thesis and communicated these findings via a presentation. I received an A- grade for my research project, contributing toward my first class honours.
