I am currently working as a Master on worldwide, medium range chemical tankers for a global leader in the industry. Until recently i was employed as a Roving Master / Safety Training Officer for a different worldwide Oil, Chemical tanker and dry bulk Shipowner, Manager & Operator. I was tasked with improving the safety culture on-board the vessels, whilst maintaining commercial standing. This was achieved through sailing on the vessels to carry out training, mentoring and assist the vessels with finding safer ways to achieve the commercial targets set.During my career I have sailed and worked with many different nationalities, trading at many different ports, worldwide. Thisis a challenge, but one that I take on with earnest.I have spent the majority of my career on chemical tankers, where there are a great many challenges daily. Every voyage and everyoperation is different. Operations take a great deal of planning and effort to execute. Tank cleaning from one cargo toanother can be very intensive, with great pressure on time whilst always ensuring safety. I enjoy the satisfaction ofcompleting a full discharge, tank cleaning and loading in good time, without incident. I am experienced with drydockings,surveys and vetting inspections.I have sailed as Master on vessels from 10K dwt to 50K dwt on coastal trade and worldwide trade.I like to involve myself with the industry beyond my employment and am an active member of the Nautical Institute. In 2014 Iwas asked to present on the Human Element at the Nautical Institute Command Seminar in London and in 2015 my articleentitled ‘How the modern seafarer perceives risk’ was published and later won the 500th Anniversary Prize that TheCorporation of Trinity House, London provided to the Nautical Institute.I have also had an article on ECDIS published, which has led to involvement with the UK Hydrographic Office. I have since provided consultation to UKHO on a variety of matters.I am interested in sailing on any type of vessel and am always looking to expand my knowledge and skill in all elements of the job. I am at that time in my career where I am considering shore based opportunities more.
