An experienced and purpose-filled leader, I have strong interpersonal and organisational skills. Between 1994 and 2011, I started and led several internet-related businesses in South Africa and the UK. I was exposed to and developed a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of business during these 17 years, including management, finance, sales, operations, HR and marketing. And throughout, I developed a passion for simplifying systems and processes, and grew as a leader. In 2011, I applied my skills to a whole new environment when I felt a calling to make an impact of a different kind. I joined Habitat for Humanity South Africa as National Director, and it was here that my passion for social development, transformation and people was really ignited.I am passionate about servant leadership. I enjoy bringing order to chaos. I can help you bring understanding and solutions in the midst of confusion, conflict or significant change. I have an eye for detail combined with expansive vision which helps in crafting strategy and with business planning. And I know from experience how to help leaders cast vision, provide direction and motivate others. Now, after several years supporting non-profits, social enterprises and businesses, I have gone back to where it started: at Dudobi.

National DirectorHabitat For Humanity South Africa Jan 2011 - Oct 2016Cape Town Area, South AfricaHabitat for Humanity is an international NGO with a presence in 70 countries, including South Africa since 1996. I was appointed by the board of directors to refocus, streamline and reinvigorate an organisation that had lost its way in a rapidly changing environment.Over the next six years I worked with the staff, management team, board and regional office to lead the organisation from being an insular home-construction charity to set it firmly on a path to becoming a leading rights-based actor in South Africa’s urbanisation landscape. My varied contributions touched Habitat both in South Africa and internationally:• Led and managed significant organisational change, including major shifts in culture, performance, efficiency and relevance• Developed and led Habitat through a full four-year strategic plan cycle that radically re-shaped the organisation, and then helped co-create the 2020 vision• Reinvigorated the board of directors and worked with successive board chairs to dramatically improve the quality and nature of Habitat’s board governance, oversight and leadership• Advocated for the mission continuously and promoted Habitat engaging in the sector to collaboratively advance the cause• Clarified board and staff relationships, improved interactions with the global Habitat family, and encouraged open communications• Worked with the management team and board to implement a raft of required policies, procedures and systems, whilst continually driving down wasteful expenditure• Drew on my two decades of IT experience to introduce simpler and more cost-effective technology solutions and cloud-based approaches and processesPerhaps the most rewarding change and growth of all was my own personal journey during my time at Habitat. I learned a wide array of new skills, experienced what it's like to be part of a passionate international NGO family, and heightened my emotional intelligence to become far more patient, perceptive, collaborative and flexible. -

DirectorSteel London Jul 2002 - Nov 2006London, United KingdomA company that I started with my brother in the UK was acquired by Steel Design (as it was then known) in 2002 as a key part of their strategy to diversify from a traditional print design studio into a new media agency (STEEL London). Appointed to the board initially as Director of Operations, I was responsible for overseeing the merger of the two companies, integrating all the disparate operational processes and procedures, driving growth in the then-new avenue of web development, and implementing a succession plan for the retiring Founder-Managing Director.I introduced formal strategic planning, annual goal-setting and a raft of procedures and systems, with the result that during my tenure the business more than doubled in size and profits increased three-fold. The succession plan involved me orchestrating a management buyout of the founder’s shares by the other Directors. -
