Capt. Sharma is a Master Mariner (FG) and has served the shipping industry for over 40 years at various responsible levels. He is a Fellow of Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, London, has a Diploma in Marketing Management from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai and has also completed a programme in Executive Business Leadership from ISB Hyderabad. He is the Former Chairman & Managing Director of The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd, he was the Managing Director of M/s. Essar Shipping Ltd (ESL). In his previous stints, he has served as the CEO and whole time Director on the Board of the Essar Shipping Ltd. Presently Independent Director ,Independent External Monitor (CVC),Indian Maritime university Executive Council Member, Indian Institute of corporate affairs certified Independent Director & ESG Impact Leader. Member of National association of Impact Leaders.During his near four decade long enriching stint at SCI, he served in various key technical and commercial departments such as Offshore Services, Technical / Commercial-Purchase, Bunkering etc. He went on to become Senior Vice President – Corporate Chartering, responsible for formulation of strategy & exploration of global business opportunities for various type of vessels of the SCI fleet i.e. Tankers, Bulk carriers and Containers. Subsequently he served with Essar Shipping Ltd (ESL) for eight years including Board level positions and was responsible for aligning performance of several functional groups like Operations, QHSE, Finance, Chartering, Information Technology and Human Resources towards the objective of the business. Under his leadership, both SCI and ESL have been awarded at numerous national and international forums. His membership and board representation across numerous national and international bodies is a testimony to his rich experience, leadership & standing in the global maritime /port/ logistics sector. I am looking forward to opportunities and challenges where inI can leverage my executive and board experience of over a decade in both private and public sector to drive excellence in the new role which I take up. I believe that I have something unique to offer to Maritime/port/ Logistics industry i.e. best practices of both Public/ private sector & ESG focused good governance.
