Mark was the founder and principal of an aviation infrastructure programme with formidable industry stakeholders. The $5Bn business was the successful combination of blue-chip industry engagements, UK Export Finance and Sovereign/Government engagements. This global first is cross-fertilising the hospitality, luxury brand & aviation sectors. Stable revenues of circa $750M per annum are dwarfed by the significant economic value to the local retail, hospitality, leisure and residential real estate market thus making the business a strategic asset. Contributing to the local GDP, creating a highly-skilled workforce of over 2,000 and an annual footfall of over 35,000 aviation industry personnel from across the world meant the business focus was reoriented to create a valuable asset for investment acquisition, which it achieved.

Monaco

Mark’s time with Newton Stirling was dual driven by both assisting a Private Family Office, who were investors into litigation funding cases, and project managing his own litigation case to which he was the primary beneficiary. This provided direct experience of the technical nuances involved in multi-jurisdictional litigation, the simultaneous management of lawyers in multiple jurisdictions, asset tracing, asset seizure, cross border litigation from Hague Convention countries into Non-Hague convention countries, diplomatic service of proceedings and foreign & commonwealth diplomacy of legal situations that conflict with government interests. Mark was also invited to give evidence to the UK Parliamentary Select Committee regarding the judicial use of privacy law and legal procedure in circumstances where legal opponents of unequal arms can misuse it. Through this period Mark has inadvertently become experienced in leading a tactical approach to litigation that goes beyond the conventional legal process. In summary, Mark has become highly knowledgeable in the field of litigation and in particular tactical litigation and the project management of complex cases as a consequence of such a high profile public case of his own.

Jersey, Channel Islands

Earsay, previously known as the Jersey Society for Deaf Children and Young Adults, is a registered charity set up to support the needs of deaf children and young adults. They approached Mark and requested the assistance of his commercial experience to implement a rebrand and to re-establish the charity’s functions and effectiveness. Thus creating a more profound community impact and awareness, establish improved functionality between medical professionals and the hard of hearing and deaf elements of the community. A true highlight of Mark’s time as Chairman was crewing a 5-day sailing challenge with a novice group of both hearing, hard of hearing and deaf young adults to becoming the 40.7 European Sailing Champions. A team accomplishment that solidified the rebrand and re-establishment of the charity’s functions and effectiveness.

Europe

Under license from the US parent Mark’s team were responsible for the development and operation of 200 retail units within a set business territory. Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf is a competitor and rival to Starbucks.• Negotiation of territory contracts, brand rights and operations strategy with the US parent• Legal and contractual implementation.• Managed market research, operations plan, brand positioning and implementation plan.• Assembled and managed the executive operations team.• Operational functions included UK headquarters, product manufacturing, retail unit • construction management, retail unit operations, and product distribution.Mark led the company to implementation but thereafter unfortunately the implementation became side tracked into litigation that ultimately became more valuable than the business itself. Litigation for breach of contract, misfeasance and fraud was successfully ordered in his favour by the Court. This was a monumental task against a formidable opponent that lasted many years and evolved in ways one could never have imagined. The litigation concluded with the award of substantial damages to be paid by the defaulting party. Mark gained a significant amount of knowledge and experience in law, cross border jurisdictional ligation, diplomatic procurement, asset recovery and tactical litigation against superior strength parties.

Jersey, United Kingdom

Mark set up and operated a helicopter operations company conducting Search & Rescue Operations, managing corporate aircraft and providing a very high standard of private service to VIPs. This was the first civil search & rescue operation in a British territory covering 4000 sq. mile of airspace. In recognition of Mark’s commitment to Search & Rescue operations the Post Office issued a 1st class postage stamp in HART’s honour.• Flight operations to public transport standards, service standards and executive management • Aircraft acquisitions, financing and engineering management contracts • Service delivery and revenue growth through relationship management • Crisis management. Canary Wharf, London

Mark was directly responsible for the vision, development, commercial strategy and operations of a 100,000 square foot multi-function facility in the heart of Canary Wharf. Employing over 200 operations staff, providing a service to 10,000 members with 90% of its functions managed internally. Scotland

LBW was a small real estate development company that Mark owned. Projects included the landmark Bastille earning a Scottish Civic Society award. It also included the creation of a 12-acre leisure park in Scotland which included a 50,000 square foot Virgin Movie Theatre, 72 bedroom Holiday Inn Hotel, Innkeepers Fayre family Restaurant and a 5,000 seat multi-purpose ice stadium; with an aggregate development value of £30 million. Sold to a listed property asset fund.

Scotland

Mark was primarily responsible for providing funding and investment to the leisure and property development sector of the business community. Projects ranged from £500k to £10m. Duties included customer negotiations, project due-diligence, business models, securitization and post lending business monitoring. Mark’s role enabled him to acquire the foundation of personal business skills and collect valuable knowledge that was to be the corner stone of his future business experience. These operational activities of NFMC plc were subsequently acquired by 3i.

United Kingdom

Mark’s underlying strength of character and skill to overcome challenges with fairness, respectfulness and dignity to all, to this day, comes from his dedicated and proud service as a Royal Marine Commando. Mark completed his service in a United Kingdom Special Forces (UKSF) unit and chose the banking sector as his resettlement program on completion of service.
