I spent the last year of my MSc in the Geotechnical department of Universal Foundation. My primary tasks in this position were to develop a numerical model in Plaxis based on the Stiffness Degradation Model (SDM) in order to estimate the accumulated rotation of a mono-bucket foundation for different loading conditions as well as the design of a chart which for a given geometry, predicts if the rotation is “acceptable”, “acceptable after validation by the use of the FEM model”, or “excessively large for the geometry”. Laboratory tests were carried out in a small scale mono-bucket placed in partially drained sand inside of a pressure tank in order to validate the numerical model and cyclic triaxial tests were used for obtaining the regression parameters required in the stiffness degradation theory. At the same time, during my stay in the company I participated in the composition of 3 articles and a laboratory technical report with the results and conclusions of our work which are published.
