About Cara Aspesi, Phd
I am a scholar and educator who believes that Christian education ought to help students develop all the capacities of their nature, and continually direct students' vision to God's goodness, truth, and beauty in everything studied, so that students become mature adults who love God above all else, and fearlessly and competently love their neighbors as themselves, for God's great glory and their own boundless joy.I hold a Ph.D. in Theology from the University of Notre Dame, and a Masters in Early Christian Studies from the same. As a researcher, my primary areas of expertise are the history of early Christian worship and Crusade liturgy. Prior to taking my current position as Head of School at TSCS, I served as an Upper School Humanities instructor at a classical Christian school in Idaho and taught university-level courses at many institutions. Most recently, I served as the Project Manager of Medieval Liturgy: Tutorials for Students, Teachers & Researchers, an open-access website hosted by the University of Notre Dame that teaches users how to understand and navigate Latin-rite medieval liturgical books and use them as primary sources in studying the European Middle Ages.

I defended my dissertation on the 22nd of September, 2017, while carrying my third son. I delivered my first son six months after having to change directions on my dissertation research due to developments in my field. I also completed my dissertation not only while bringing children into the world, but while my husband was in his medical residency. I wish to underscore these circumstances to demonstrate my work ethic and ability to persevere through great difficulties.
