After successfully completing the management training courses, I was assigned to my own store on a military base. I managed a small store with about 15 employees. As manager of this remote location, all of the responsibility for ordering merchandise, accounting, hiring, interviewing, warehouse work, and public relations fell to me. I thoroughly enjoyed this position, and under my management, sales increased over 300% in 18 months. I met with the base commander and his team monthly, taking all of their recommendations to heart. Being so remote, I provided as many comforts from the US as possible. I found that asking and listening to our customers increased traffic and sales. We were very successful. After my daughter was born, I decided to stay home and raise my family.
