My thesis was focused on characterising the microbiome of the milk and postpartum uterus of the dairy cow and investigating if there were differences in the microbiome over time, between cows with low and high inflammation, and fertility outcomes. This involved optimization of techniques for DNA extraction and PCR, as well as bioinformatics of sequencing data and statistical analyses. Since completing my Masters I have continued to work as a Research Technician at DairyNZ, preparing the bovine mitochondrial genome for sequencing.
