Technologists are asked what drives innovation, and will reliably reply with the need for change, modernization of legacy, leveraging untapped reservoirs of data, or promises of a new unexplored frontier. For me, technical innovation holds direct and practical promise, and has throughout my life. It was practical when my pediatric orthopedist performed life changing surgery on a young patient using the latest techniques so she could walk without assistive aids. Or when my inorganic chemist father pioneered the low emissivity glass coating advancements that are regulating the temperature in the room you’re sitting in now. These formative influences drive me to the conclusion that the true purpose of technical innovation is the positive effect it has on the lives of people around us. In financial services, we find ourselves in the midst of rapid change. The goals of my current role are to continuously develop and integrate a forward thinking technology strategy that meets the stated and anticipated needs of our clients and their investors over the long haul. The clients we serve represent a span of multiple generations with different goals and invest without borders, thus my team’s challenge is integrating the right mix of proprietary and third party solutions that allow us to operate efficiently while strengthening our evolving and growing wealth management platform responsibly. My time with BNY Mellon Pershing has provided me the opportunity to work with employees, clients, and advisors on a collective journey to improve the experiences of clients via digital transformation and the elimination of paperwork, by providing valuable insights from mountains of data, by automating the repeatable, and in general increasing the adoption of technology tools that make the complex universe of investments easier to navigate and understand.
