Carel joined KPMG in 1985 and has 34 years of audit, tax and advisory experience. He has dedicated the last 28 years to mining. Carel is currently Head of Energy & Natural Resources for KPMG in Southern Africa and is based in Johannesburg. He has helped numerous companies to move from appropriation accounting to IFRS and US GAAP. His passion lies within the mining industry, his excellent IFRS and USGAAP capability, integrity, pragmatism and good business relationships are the cornerstones of his service promise to clients. Carel is a strong leader and excellent communicator; he is also good at putting together highly productive teams. Not afraid to challenge or state opinions, he is empathetic and an excellent mediator and motivator of people around him. Carel has assisted companies to list on numerous exchanges both locally and abroad. He has worked extensively on the African continent including Mali, Angola, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Zambia and Zimbabwe. As the East continues to rise, and Africa’s emergence as the ‘new frontier’ this is an exciting time for the African continent.
