About Carina Meyer

I am a Senior Scientist who transitioned from the R&D department to Process Development at HebeCell over the last 4 years. HebeCell Corp develops a manufacturing platform to generate Stem Cell derived NK cells. The small nature of HebeCell gave me the opportunity to be involved in R&D, Process Development, Assay Development, Clean Room Manufacturing and document writing to file for IND. This position taught me about all the components which are required to get a cell therapy product form R&D to the clinic. Additionally, I received a PhD in Neuroimmunology from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in collaboration with the University Freiburg in Germany. My PhD work concerned a neurodegenerative mouse model with a particular interest in microglia and their interaction with other neuronal cell types. Additionally, during my master thesis work I also collected great experience in vitro cell systems in the field of Cardioimmunology.

    PhD in Neuro-Immunology in Frederic Geissmann's Lab in collaboration with Marco Prinz at the University Freiburg. My PhD work is concerning a mouse model in which a somatic mutation is introduced into the tissue resident macrophage linage targeting specifically the microglia in the brain and causes a form of neurodegeneration (Mass et al 2017 Nature). I am analyzing the clonal expansion of mutated microglia and their effect in different parts of the brain by flow cytrometry, cell sorting, ddPCR and histology.Additionally, I am testing a combination treatment to improve the disease progression and survival time.
