About Carina Smith

"Learn to type".....you'll always have a job if you can type! That's the advice I was given for my career advice over 31 years ago and although I did undertake my PA course then at college luckily I think I got a rather murky "pass" on the typing aspect of that course. I knew if I was to have any chance of enjoying my next 40 years at work I had to do something I was passionate about! I always adored the film stars of the 50s and 60s and would spend hours trying to emulate their looks hence where my love of make up came from....back then before influencers and the internet department stores ruled the High Street and I was lucky enough to work for a very impressive store for the number one make up brand in the world back then.It was my first love and I was blessed to work with some of the best in the business. This job led me quickly to my first management role and I soon realised there was more to beauty than putting on lipstick. I found my role involved coaching and mentoring men and women also eager to succeed in this sales hungry environment but also my love of events. This was another huge joy for me, learning how to promote a new product or promotion in a real out of the box sort of way, the actual sales results were almost an add on! 31 years on I continue to evolve there maybe a few more wrinkles now but by the way I do have a cream for that!!

Customer testimonials have said just this which has been such a fantastic feel. The biggest compliment was when even someone's child said go into Space Nk Mummy it always makes you feel better! This was so important because customers don't always remember what you say but they do remember how you make them feel. Our KPIs and Sales are driven by utilising the community around us. Over the years we have linked with local businesses from charities to Tinwood to Goodwood Estate, and held brunches, workshops and private events that have not only got us known but where customers will pop in just to say hi, to me that's what we have been working towards. Biggest problem for bricks and mortar stores are staying relevant in an online world but our strategy is paying off and every day is a blessing in this store. Show less

This was my first experience selling mass market product and I saw an opportunity to increase sales by applying the service and sales strategy that I had with the luxury market. We linked with community projects and sometimes were able to get the whole store involved which was a win win. The highlight for me was being invited to the Queens Garden Party Picnic with other Boots Employees from other parts of the country for my work with local eventing. One of my favourites was linking with disadvantaged youths and being able to create a workshop for them which was something I'll always remember. The main result from the business strategy that we implemented was we became the first wall account in the UK to hit a million pounds as you can see below a "Super Account" after this my cup literally over floweth! This enabled us to have more room for special events and utilised the space in front of the counter for shows and workshops with over 25 customers. Using our new surroundings to their full advantage increased revenue, Kpis and store presence. Challenges included selling in a less affluent area so making sure customer loyalty was the number one aim, as attracting new customers from footfall was difficult we reached out to local business to host events for them, this overcame these issues. Such a stunning store with a great supportive team by going back to basics and doing this well, then moving on to events and promotions and devising a daily, weekly, monthly plan after 6 weeks we had closed the defecit truly incredible. One Christmas we divided the team into 2 and ran two events simultaneously that enabled us to double our money. The feeling of hitting those targets was unbelievable and gave testament to the strength of the team and the calibre of the women I worked with. Show less

This was the perfect partnership for our brand and we set to work by reaching out to Vips and regular customers for themed events and promotions. These quickly became a firm favourite so much so we were able to create "wait lists" for the next one. The sales team were already extremely talented but with these new ideas we were able to go from high to stratospheric in terms of Kpis. Show less

What was interesting before this we had still managed to quadruple sales in 3 years which led me to winning the Golden Rose Award for top sales consultant and as a team the Trip Of A Lifetime to Las Vegas for Sales. The fact we could do this in an environment that didn't have the brightest and the best counter gave testament to the fact of how we treated our customers and maximised every opportunity with what we did have says a lot. Our ranking in the region had jumped from Number 12 to 4 in this time and shows that you don't always have to have the biggest counter to grow. Service and Consistency is what won the race here Show less
