This position leads and manages the Bay Area Program Expansion in coordination with the FFRP Leadership Team and core values. This includes:- Direct supervision and coaching of the Bay Area staff team to achieve key goals and metrics aligned to our strategic plan;- Building strategic relationships with local program, funding, and advocacy partners and to strengthen our impact in the community; - Ensuring collaborative and effective partnerships within the region, with our Headquarters in Southern California, and across the organization at large; - Cultivating a cohesive, values-aligned regional team that demonstrates strong team culture, communication, and role clarity;- Establishing systems and protocols to support planning, evaluation, strategy, and communications for the regional office and its programs.

Currently serving the Forestry and Fire Recruitment Program (FFRP) as a client of Venture Leadership Consulting to support the organizational infrastructure development needed to support the Bay Area program expansion.

Developed a current landscape of organizational players and individual leaders with whom Stanford should be familiar, with a focus on San Mateo County and Santa Clara County. Interviewed Stanford and community stakeholders and conducted a full document review to develop a list of more than 200 community contacts, Stanford contacts, and related resources, as well as recommendations to the Office of Community Engagement (OCE). A summary of the recommendations was shared with all stakeholders at the conclusion of the project, including a personal handoff of relationships that highlighted next steps with OCE staff.

Drove program growth and guided the organizational strategy, operations, and planning efforts of the organization as part of the Leadership Team during a period of significant growth for the organization. Staffing increased to 10 FTE while we continued to annually engage 1,500 corporate and community volunteers in supporting our programs and served approximately 150 low-income homeowners and community facilities each year. Led community partnerships, special projects and initiatives (EPA Garage Conversion/ADU Legalization, Barron Avenue Mobile Home Park Rehab, Farm Labor Housing, etc.), and supported the evaluation and development of all programs for the organization as part of our Theory of Change process and participation in the Sobrato Impact Lab. Incorporated use of new technology and software, including Salesforce and Google Workspace, to support operations and programs, as well as internal and external communications. Assisted with program-related grant applications, reporting, and communications, including relationship-building with government, foundation, corporate and individual donors. Worked regionally with our Bay Area affiliates and community coalitions, and also engaged in national initiatives through our Rebuilding Together network. Led a program team of six staff members and three AmeriCorps members, worked closely with our Board of Directors and volunteer project leaders, and served as Acting Executive Director through two leadership transitions.

The Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Foundation, the San Francisco Foundation, and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation envisioned an intermediary organization that could improve the health and youth development outcomes of underserved kids by eliminating the economic and gender barriers to their participation in great sports programs.

Stanford, California

Coordinated student, staff, and faculty involvement in partnership with a community building and neighborhood revitalization initiative led by residents and community leaders in East Palo Alto. Administered the $250,000+/year project, including supervision of a full-time Community Research Specialist and four undergraduate student assistants. Wrote proposals and reports for funding related to work with the initiative and conducted outreach and communications activities on behalf of the project. Directed the planning and implementation of a comprehensive community-based evaluation system for the project, in consultation with partner organizations, including leading evaluation workshops and coaching sessions for an Evaluation Task Force comprised of community members. Authored and published “East Palo Alto: Community Profile,” a 168-page report produced in English and Spanish which documented and analyzed 45 community indicators related to the East Palo Alto community.

As part of the Multicultural Fellowship Program, assisted with grantmaking and initiative work within the Education & Health Program Areas, with a particular focus on youth development, school reform, family support, and early childhood education. Reviewed and analyzed proposals and letters of intent submitted to the Foundation, conducted site visits and interviews with grantees, prepared and presented recommendations for Board and staff review, and evaluated final reports for grants approved through the Health & Education Team. Prepared recommendations for donors, and provided general support to Donor Services and program staff for donor site visits and forums. Provided administrative and program support to the Quality Child Care Initiative for the Early Childhood Funders, assisted with community meetings for the FAITHS Initiative and the 7th Street/McClymonds Corridor Neighborhood Improvement Initiative. Organized a site visit and discussion to highlight opportunities and partnerships for funding and supporting the Pacific Islander community in December 1999. Facilitated community input sessions on youth development funding priorities in March and April 2000.
