In addition to performing the duties of a Security Officer, I also provide leadership, direction and discipline to the Security Officers on the assigned shift. Activities are aimed at providing a safe, pleasant, convenient environment for staff, patients and visitors at the medical center.

I answer phones calls and I enter the calls of service into a Computer Aided Dispatch system, then Dispatch the Hospital Security Officers to the calls for service as needed. This is a high stress environment.

FTO-FieldTraining Officer. I'm responsible for training newly hired Hospital Security Officers. As an FTO my goal is to produce competent, skilled and dedicated officers who are capable of working in challenging working environment.

Receives general direction from the Security Manager, Supervisor or Lead Security Officer. Performs a variety of intermediate level technical security protective duties to protect patients, visitors, staff, physicians, property and facilities from accidents, bodily harm, fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry. Enforces PH&S, facility and security policies and regulations. Investigates reports of potential criminal conduct against PH&S staff, visitors, staff, and property; responds and assists in restraining patients; detains individuals when necessary or at the direction of a police officer; and provides protective services to high-risk areas. May be required to support any Providence or affiliated organizations within the Oregon Region.

As a Direct Support Professional, I work directly with individuals who have intellectual or developmental disabilities. On a daily basis, I assist individuals with various daily living activities like bathing, eating, administering medications, hygiene and grooming.

As an unarmed Hospital Security Officer, I patrol the hospital and grounds to prevent fires, theft, vandalism and respond to the security needs of personnel. I respond to burglar and fire alarms, panic alarms, and code alerts. I provide escorts for visitors and patients. I’m also responsible for unlocking and locking facilities on a regular basis. I assist medical staff in controlling and restraining combative patients as necessary. I’m also a PSA (Personal Safety Attendant) for patients that are on a medical hold or Psych plan of care. I use and monitor our camera system, write daily logs and reports. Some of the programs I use are; Avigilon (camera and person search), OMNIGO (report system) and Microsoft (outlook).

As an unarmed Public Safety Officer, I patrol four main college campuses on foot and by vehicle to ensure a safe and healthy environment. I provide customer service, information and assistance to students, staff and the general public. I provide motorist assists and student and staff safety escorts. I respond to intrusion and panic alarms, fire and medical emergencies and provide on-scene incident command in emergency situations. I conduct preliminary investigation of incidents that have occurred on college property which includes interviewing suspects, witnesses and victims and assures appropriate disposition of such incidents. I monitor the camera systems and have working knowledge of our dispatching system (ARMS).

As an armed Patrol Officer, I patrol assigned areas by foot and vehicle. I’m responsible for ensuring that site equipment doesn’t go missing and to report and observe any suspicious activity on the site as well as take action if needed. I’m also responsible for setting up and taking down court equipment. I check in individuals for court, enforce courtroom rules and regulations and ensure safety of the judge and court staff. As court lead I’m responsible for training officers in court rules, regulations and procedures.

As an unarmed Public Safety Officer, I patrol assigned areas by foot, bicycle and patrol vehicle. Some of my duties include ensuring the security of building and classrooms, monitoring of fire systems, responding to fire alarms, responding to medical emergencies, assisting in criminal investigation, enforcing parking regulation, respond to party and noise calls, crowd control for sporting events, directing traffic, person stops, traffic stops and assisting in the liaison program. I’m also cross trained to work dispatch. Some of these duties include, dispatching officers to calls, logging calls into the dispatching system (Crime Star), answering phone calls, checking contractors in and out, making emergency 911 calls when asked by the officer(s) and keeping track of two to four officers at any one time.
