The PA-RISC low-level optimizer was the first assembly-level optimizer in the industry. By 1996 it provided SPEC runtime performance only challenged by DEC Alpha at over twice the clock speed. Consulted for ISVs and spoke widely as an Optimization and Performance Evangelist. Led an effort that eliminated compilation time as an issue in that compiler ever.
