As Group CEO, Carl is responsible for the strategic direction and overall strategy of Capital Services Group ("CSG"). Founded in 1998 and headquartered in Tokyo, CSG, on behalf of its clients, services and manages secured and unsecured, performing and non-performing, real estate and consumer loans. CSG also provides asset management, real estate brokerage and administrative services. From the founding and continuing today, CSG’s emphasis is Asia. CSG currently has offices in six Asian countries - Japan (the largest operation), Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan. A Florida US office is in formation as is an Indian joint venture which will create an office in Mumbai, India. Carl has been in the real estate business since completing graduate school in 1978. From 1978-1986 his emphasis was on real estate development, first with Lincoln Property Company in Los Angeles. Following Lincoln Property Company, he worked at a small residential developer, West Beach Property Company. Beginning in 1989, he concentrated exclusively on the resolution of U.S. non-performing real estate loans. His real estate loan work-out experience from 1989-1996 was with major money center U.S. banks. He concurrently managed a portfolio of large real estate loans while overseeing non-performing real estate work-out teams of five to ten people. Portfolio collateral was located throughout the U.S. and exceeded USD 50 billion in principal balances. Carl arrived in Tokyo in December 1997 as part of GMAC’s Commercial Mortgage Japan team. In December of 1997, GMAC, along with other investors, purchased one of the first non-performing Japanese real estate portfolios. Carl worked in Japan with GMAC for most of 1998 and periodically until summer of 1999. In September 1999, he joined Capital Servicing Japan, as Managing Director. He became CSG's Representative Director in 2000. In 1999, CSG was a Lehman Brother's subsidiary although Lehman later sold their interest in CSG.
