Carl Lakari is an affordable housing developer and also the Coordinator and Co-Founder, of Project AWARE. He has over 30 years of experience in managing complex endeavors aimed at helping youth and adults live safer and healthier lives. He provides consulting, technical assistance and resource development to non-profit organizations and units of government. He specializes in affordable housing, but has also completed successful projects in education, environment, social services, community development, progressive social change, and the arts. Carl wants his work to be a vehicle for advocating his belief that collaboration and community will create support systems for those most in need. To date, he has coordinated, developed and submitted successful federal grants for community-based organizations, municipalities and governments in 16 States. Overall, he has helped raise over $42 million for teenagers and adults with special needs. Additionally, he co-founded a community-based housing organization, a youth empowerment program and a center for the arts. Recently Carl completed a $7 million, 60 unit affordable housing tax credit project in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Currently he is working as developer on numerous other projects providing critical housing and support for people of low income.
