Lead contractor for a multi-year series of flexible batch automation projects to convert automation on site fermenter trains to DeltaV. Provided all DeltaV design, configuration, documentation, and testing to meet defined project scope.

Provided guidance on design of batch layer for BICI’s DeltaV system for a new building. Developed work processes and wrote a complete set of SOPs/Standards for DeltaV development and configuration. Led a project to develop a DeltaV component library to use site-wide on future projects.

June 2005 to June 2009 Provided Emerson DeltaV PCS configuration and controls engineering for Pfizer Global API Automation Group. Member of 3 person team that designed, developed, tested, and supported a global DeltaV library that provided the core process control software for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient plants world-wide. Developed a set of universal Dynamos, Faceplates, and Details to use with library modules. March 2000 to August 2005 Automation/Control engineer for Emerson DeltaV PCS for Pfizer Manufacturing. Designed and configured DeltaV software to support a dozen capital engineering projects. Developed S88 batch components for a half-dozen product campaigns. Completed 100’s of formal, documented changes to the DeltaV software library and system configuration. Developed a Visual Basic program to automatically convert graphics from Fix32 to iFix that cut conversion time by a factor of 10.

Automation engineer for Fisher Provox DCS for the fermentation pilot plant at the Glaxo Wellcome and Wyeth Bio-Pharmaceuticals West Greenwich RI facility. Supported project engineering and production. Configured Operations, FSTs and Points. Analyzed production data for root cause determination.

• Managed a group that provided automation engineering, control system programming, and 24-hour on-call support for production automation systems in Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient manufacturing, Environmental Services and Utility Operations. Systems included more than 10000 I/O points on PROVOX DCS, Bailey DCS, Wonderware MMI software, and Programmable Logic Controllers.• Hands-on configuration, programming, and troubleshooting of PROVOX DCS and Wonderware HMI software. Included design, development, and implementation of a Wonderware SCADA system to monitor, log, and report total and peak load usage of all plant utilities for each cost center. • Control Engineer for redesign of a new $60 million automated pilot plant for Chemical Development.

• Programmed and supported the startup of a Honeywell TDC2000 DCS that controlled a large-scale bioprocessing facility. Designed and implemented the control strategy for the ultra-filtration skid.• Designed and implemented a Personal Computer based process reporting system that used US Data’s FactoryLink to collect and report data from a Honeywell TDC2000.• Project Manager for the design of a $20 million sterile manufacturing facility.• Developed a corporate-wide computer validation guideline that covered Programmable Logic Controllers, Personal Computers, and Distributed Control Systems used in manufacturing. This document was incorporated into a Pitman-Moore global policy on validation.

• Supervised the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing automation group and managed the development of automation projects.• Initiated, justified, developed, and implemented a Square D Programmable Logic Controller based control system for a high sheer granulator used in tablet manufacturing.• Managed the design and development of a Square D PLC based control system for a new, fully automated USP Purified Water system. Operator interface was developed using Iconics Genesis. • Developed specifications for a Paperless Batch Record System and managed first phases of the project. System was designed to verify the completion of all instructions in each Production Order.• Led project to develop a custom, $500,000 Automated Weighing and Checking System that allowed operators to dispense 15% more material with 15% fewer labor hours.• Investigated, justified, and set-up an experimental, robotic vision system for inspecting tablet punches.

• Researched, selected, purchased, and installed a network of UNIX based, Sun workstations. Designed, wrote, and debugged embedded "C" code for telecommunications test equipment.
