Director - Payments Transformation - Program DirectorBarclays Africa Group Limited Apr 2016 - Nov 2018Johannesburg Area, South AfricaI led a programme team to transform the payments capability across 10 African countries. The transformation laid the foundation for Barclays Africa to advance its payments offering as well as provide a seamless customer experience given the level of automation being delivered. The programme entailed implementing Domestic Low Value, Domestic High Value, International Payments and Instant Payments engines into each country to abstract the payments processing capability out of core banking and into a tiered architecture thereby replacing the manual legacy environment. This is an extremely complex programme in that the payments engines first needed to be developed and then integrated into the current core banking and channel environment. Given the scale of the programme, we adopted principles from Agile and SaFe (Scaled Agile Framework) to enable the multiple development teams to build payments capabilities. In addition, this enabled accelerated customer value and incremental delivery of the capability. Main Responsibilities:• Together with the Accountable Executive, set the strategic vision, drivers, roadmap and approach for the programme• Accountable for a multi-million pound budget including business case development and benefits realisation• Instrumental in growing a programme team from 3 people to roughly 100 comprising architects, business analysts, developers, testers, change managers, process analysts, scrum masters and project managers • Engagement with country C level and MD stakeholders in centre and across each country to drive delivery• Leverge methodologies like agile, scrum, SaFe• Implementation payment product capabilities into 10 countries as well as integration in to SWIFT, domestic clearing house and domestic instant payment clearing switch• Development team has adopted leading OpenSource technology to build the technology stack• Risk management across the entire programme
