Oversee the publishing of our ever-expanding collection of curricular materials.

Responsibility for day-to-day operations of our retail books and publishing divisions. Manage customer service, catalog production and sales, eCommerce, distribution, and publishing of our own educational titles.

Tapsco was taken over by Cadmus Communications Corporation, and around this time I moved from a supervisory capacity to a technical support role. I was very involved in supporting our UNIX typesetting systems and in incorporating our desktop devices into this network. This involved technology upgrades on both the input side (Macs doing digital scanning and desktop publishing and on the output side (imaging to Postscript devices, imposition, and direct-to-plate applications using Creo technology). I also became proficient at UNIX system support, shell scripting, and Perl.

I and an associate were selected to develop the company's Graphics Department, using this new technology from Apple and Adobe (Macintosh computers and Postscript), which eventually caused great changes in the Camera Department and led to the establishment of a Desktop Publishing Department. At various times during this period I was supervisor of all these departments and helped move us from reproducing images using film and chemicals to the up and coming digital world.

I started at Tapsco as a proofreader of medical and scientific journals and books. After several months I was selected to help establish a new department where we managed part-time keyboarders who typeset authors' manuscripts for input into our typesetting systems.
