Initial projects include:Background research for report to the Texas Legislature on "feasibility and desirability" of expanded employment of CHWs in Texas (contract from Texas Department of State Health Services), 2012.Evaluation and TA contractor on national REACH Su Comunidad project for CDC - assessing local strategies for improving health related behaviors in Latino populations.Developing recommended best practices in CHW education and CHW scope of practice definitions, with the National AHEC Organization (2014).Partner with University of Florida on PCORI proposal codifying best practices in CHW interventions on heart health.Project has been deactivated (2014) since key faculty partners have moved on to other institutions.

Founding Director, responsible for statewide workforce assessment and workforce development initiatives. Worked in partnership with several schools of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, statewide organizations and local community agencies. Initiated a statewide professional association/network of CHWs. Organized first statewide CHW professional development conference.

Developed a model for CHWs contracting with Medicaid managed care organizations. Trained CHWs/Promotores along US-Mexico border in enrollment outreach for children's Medicaid/CHIP. Developed initial curriculum for Texas Public Health Leadership Institute. Helped organize the first statewide CHW conference in Texas. Organized a national invitational conferences on CHW financing (2001) and a US study tour for public health leaders from China (2000).

Responsible for curriculum development, student recruitment and placement, state and national relations for the first CHW community college program in Texas.
