I began work in the building trades after graduating from college in 1998. From Martha's Vineyard to L.A. to the shores of Lake Tahoe I worked in many aspects of the construction world. Landscaping, machinery operation, rough framing, high end tile and stone installation and fine carpentry to name a few. I moved to Boulder in 2003 and joined my brother in his young construction company. Over the years the business evolved, as did my role in it. While I don’t put on my bags much these days, I feel my ability to work with the many trades required to create outstanding project outcomes is greatly enhanced by the firsthand experience I gained in those earlier years. Having done the work myself, I can identify those subcontractors that truly excel at their trade, and my eye for detail is very sharp. I moved to SF in 2016 and had to decide which direction I wanted to take my construction career. As a builder, I had moved from performing the work myself to subcontracting it out and managing the process, and in San Francisco I saw an opportunity to move a step further and create a system that would take all of that hard earned experience and make it available to homeowners embarking on the construction journey. This took two forms: Owners representation services, where an owner hires me to execute their construction project on their behalf, and Beam, which is basically the same idea, only on a much larger scale. I am passionate about building and making the construction process better. I believe that the built environment people live in has the potential to improve quality of life, and I want to make better built environments accessible to everyone. These days my focus is on providing exceptional value to our customers through creative value engineering, solid project scope assessment, broad knowledge of various construction techniques, products, and materials, and disciplined project management.
