About Carla Fischer

I am an independent learning and development consultant with expertise in a range of leadership and professional development areas. I specialize in training delivery, meeting facilitation and team-building events. I have several large clients for whom I do (or have done) this type of work. In addition to being a long-time member of the Leadership Development Faculty at GE Crotonville, some of my clients include Bain Consulting, Dell Technologies, HSBC, Bayer, and many others.Over the years, my work has taken me to over 50 countries, tracing back to my very first assignment in India in 1995. Since that time, I have delivered training for multi-national corporations both in English and while using simultaneous translation. After many years of working with so many different cultures and traditions, I have developed a keen international sensitivity and "global brains." My present book of business has me working more outside the US than inside the US.As a freelancer, I am also fortunate to offer the same services through other consulting firms including Gilman Performance Solutions (GPS), TRI Corp., PPS-SyNet, Wronski & Assoc., and others. I am an MBTI certified Master Practitioner. This designation is reserved for only the most experienced "super-users" of the assessment. I have been administering the MBTI to clients since 1993. I also have certification to administer the Hogan Assessment, am certified in TRACOM's Resilient Mind program, accredited in TRACOM Social Styles, and am Six Sigma Green Belt certified. I am a proud alumna of Syracuse University and am still very active on campus and with several local alumni groups. In 2015, I was named to the Syracuse University Alumni Association Board of Directors and became Committee Chair for the Alumni Awards Committee in 2018. I presently serve as a board member of SU Athletics' Cuse Fan Council. In 2011, I created an endowed scholarship to help send a student to SU. My accessory line, 315 Collection, was created in 2011 to help fund the account. Learn more by visiting www.315 Collection.com.

  • Communispond
    Faculty
    Communispond 1999 - 2007
I had a fabulous eight year run as a member of the faculty at this respected Manhattan-based communications training firm. I received certification to teach Executive Presentation Skills, Sales Presentation Skills and Business Writing (Write Up Front) programs. Key clients include: GE Crotonville, GE Commercial Finance, GE Medical Systems, Honeywell, Yale School of Management, Sherwin Williams, Prudential Securities, Bayer, Aetna, Phillip Morris, Schering-Plough, Bristol Myers Squibb, Northrup Grumman, Marriott, Merck, Alliance Bernstein, and many, many more companies and organizations.
  • General Electric
Global Program Leader, Information Management Leadership Program Imlp
    General Electric 1997 - 1999
I was responsible for the strategic management of this 400+ member global entry-level training program at GE. Responsibilities included recruiting and hiring strategy and execution; then oversight of a 2-year development program that included four 6-month job rotations and a combination of technical, leadership and business training for new IT hires. This job involved overseeing these functions including vendor identification, working with a team of business-based reps, and budget management. I was also responsible for managing a pool of entry-level IT talent (40 members) located throughout Asia. Additionally, while in this role I earned Six Sigma Green Belt Certification.
  • Ge Capital
    Manager, Leadership Development Programs
    Ge Capital 1996 - 1997
I managed a leadership curriculum at GE Vendor Financial Services that focussed on the roll-out of a performance management process across the entire business. In this role, I helped shape the performance management process by designing and producing extensive internal communications to train managers and employees about their roles in the process.
  • Ge Crotonville
    Program Manager, Leadership Essentials
    Ge Crotonville 1994 - 1996
Arguably the best job I ever had! I was responsible for GE's one-week entry-level leadership training program at the Management Development Center at Crotonville. My role was to conduct a needs assessment with top functional leaders at GE businesses, then manage a curriculum to meet those needs. As program manager, I set course objectives, then identified instructors and internal subject matter experts to teach the programs. During my tenure, we ran about 15 programs per year with 100-120 participants per program. About half of the courses were held in the U.S. and the remainder were offered in Europe, Mexico, Brazil, Singapore, Japan, China, India, Australia and more. In most locations, we ran programs in English, however, I learned to teach using simultaneous translation in Beijing, Shanghai, and Tokyo. During my tenure in this job, I earned certification to deliver the Myers Briggs Type Indicator -- one of my favorite subjects to teach.
  • Ge
    Project Manager, Technical Entry Programs
    Ge 1993 - 1995
As project manager, I was responsible for tracking and enforcing graduation requirements for GE's Manufacturing Management Program (MMP). I worked closely with the Corporate Program Manager who set strategy, determined competencies, and designed training programs. Then it was my job to follow-up and enforce the program requirements. My role included tracking job assignments for this 6-month rotational program, ensuring that members had exposure to a variety of aspects of manufacturing; and then helping program graduates identify permanent jobs upon program graduation. I also scheduled and tracked completion of the training programs required for MMP graduation. During my years in this job, I frequently worked closely with GE's campus recruiting group, sometimes participating in strategy meetings or delivering interviewer training; and other times, conducting invterviews on campuses in U.S. and Puerto Rico.
  • Ge Corporate Public Relations
    Media Relations/Public Relations Representative
    Ge Corporate Public Relations 1989 - 1993
Here, I was fortunate to work with a small team (about 5, depending on how you count) of brilliant spokespersons. It was our role to create positions and respond to media querries at GE's corporate HQ. My specific beats included community service, educational relations and corp. advertising. I did traditional PR activities when GE would roll out a new TV commercial (ex: the anniversary of night football) or sponsor an Audubon documentary on PBS, for example. I was also responsible for overseeing photo sessions with GE's top executives including Jack Welch and Vice-Chairman Larry Bossidy. While on this job, I worked as a fact-checker on the first book that was ever written about the Welch years at GE: "Control Your Destiny Or Someone Else Will," by management guru Noel Tichy and FORTUNE Senior Editor Start Sherman. I worked closely with Noel, Strat and their researchers to provide information--then fact-check content--for this best-selling book.
  • Ge Aircraft Engines
    Employee Communications
    Ge Aircraft Engines 1987 - 1989
My first job out of college.I was responsible for traditional Employee Communications at this, GE's largest (at that time) non-union manufacturing facility.
