About Carla Gomes
Having started my career as a journalist, I collaborated with several editorial projects focused on environment and sustainability. I earned my Master degree in Environmental Management with a dissertation on Clean Development in the Portuguese-Speaking African Countries. This project involved fieldwork in Cabo Verde and resulted in an awarded book, after which I decided to fully dedicate to academia (2010). As an environmental social scientist, I am especially interested in interdisciplinary approaches to climate change, environmental justice and natural resources management. Working as part of a research team at the Institute of Social Sciences (Lisbon), and afterwards as a PhD candidate, I had the opportunity to develop skills as an independent researcher. Have been awarded a PhD in 2018 by the University of East Anglia (UK) and the University of Lisbon (PT). The thesis analysed the justice implications of “Green Revolution” land deals in Mozambique, including their impacts on the climatic resilience of rural communities. I work as a researcher on climate adaptation and development at ICS-ULisboa, currently leading the Work Package "Society, Governance & Policy" at the H2020 Project B-WaterSmart (2020-2024), which aims to address water scarcity and other societal challenges across 6 European regions.
