After graduating in the fall of 2015 with my master’s in Early Childhood Education from Oklahoma State University, I moved to the state of Missouri. After obtaining my teaching certificate in Early Childhood Education in Missouri, I began a year of substitute teaching for Kelly Educational Staffing. During the 2016-2017 academic year, I gained invaluable experiences at various schools across the Kansas City metropolitan area. Once the year ended, I had the pleasure of joining the North Kansas City school district for a summer of teaching second grade. The following fall, I became part of the Crossroads Academy at Central Street team as a kindergarten paraprofessional. I was later promoted to a lead teacher role in a co-taught first-grade classroom at the same school. Over the next two academic years, I honed my skills in differentiating instruction to meet the needs of 45 scholars while fostering a positive, trauma-sensitive classroom environment. Being part of the Crossroads team allowed me to demonstrate my work ethic, adaptability to changing learning environments, and ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues. After three years with the Crossroads family, I moved west to California to be closer to family. While working for the Evergreen Union School District, I taught first grade for two years and second grade for one year. During my time there, I implemented a school activity committee called the Sunshine Squad, coached Cross-Country, and was honored with the Edward Johns Feature Teacher Award for the 2022-2023 academic year. In July 2023, I moved to Russellville, Arkansas, and began my current position at the Russellville Cyclone Virtual Academy (RCVA). As a K-8 virtual educator, I teach K-5 English Language Arts, K-2 Math, and K-8 Science, providing both synchronous and asynchronous instruction. I conduct one-on-one reading and math interventions, develop supplemental content, and maintain regular communication with families to support student success. Additionally, I serve as a content creator for RCVA’s social media platforms, designing and publishing newsletters, Facebook posts, and school website updates. My current role allows me to combine my teaching expertise with innovative digital communication strategies to engage and support a virtual learning community.

1St Grade TeacherCrossroads Academy At Central Street Jul 2018 - Jun 2020Kansas City, Missouri AreaFor the last two academic years I have been one of two lead teachers in an urban, first grade classroom. Working for Crossroads has allowed me to grow as an educator, mentor, student, and colleague. As an educator, I have gained the resources to implement practices in my classroom that help each child grow academically by utilizing data driven practices. Beginning with Fountas and Pinnell to guide my small group instruction for Guided Reading, I have been able to see a years growth in all of my students each year. With Unbound New York as our primary math instruction, I have implemented the Workshop Model to allow my students the ability to showcase what they know in independent practice. As a mentor to my scholars, I have spent countless hours demonstrating and practicing appropriate emotion regulation. I have gained the skills to recognize the needs of my scholars and adapt accordingly. As a lifelong student, I spent each week in "collaborative" meetings with my co-teacher, vice-principal, and instructional coach to collaborate on what practices would be best for our scholars. Each week we spent at least one hour learning a new skill that will help guide our instruction for our scholars. Topics have included: phonemic awareness, phonics, writing, trauma-informed care, Restorative Justice, BIST, Unbound Math, Heggerty, and more. Working closely with my fellow teachers has helped me establish lifelong friendships with my coworkers and recognize the importance of leaning on and learning from my colleagues. I have also spent countless hours outside of school to get to know my community better. Please see my volunteer listings below to find out more.My time at Crossroads has shaped who I am as an educator and I could not be happier with my career choice. I am thrilled to see where my journey through education takes me.

ParaprofessionalCrossroads Academy At Central Street Aug 2017 - Jun 2018Kansas City, Missouri AreaFor my first year at Crossroads Academy, I had the pleasure of working alongside three talented educators in a co-taught classroom in downtown Kansas City. Not only did I have the opportunity to assist the lead teachers with various responsibilities in the classroom; I also helped foster emotional development in our young learners while maintaining a trauma-sensitive environment. I worked one-on-one with several scholars who needed additional emotional support. Using the Behavioral Intervention Support Team (BIST) model as the primary course of emotion regulation, we made leaps and bounds with our scholars’ development. As a team we created behavior plans and adapted our schedule to meet the needs of students who needed accommodation. Our team spent our plan time working together to create and recreate academic plans that would best meet the needs of each student in our combined classrooms.
