Carleen Cullen founded Cool the Earth, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing carbon emissions. She served as EV policy advisor to Governor Gavin Newsom and has worked for nearly a decade to educate consumers about electric driving. As a clean vehicle subject matter expert, she has engaged with government policymakers at the highest levels, from the governor’s office in Sacramento to the national labs in D.C. Her collaborative style and comprehensive knowledge have made her a sought-after participant in policy- and decision-making government entities and NGOs. Along with high-level perspective, Carleen’s leadership roles in grassroots EV coalitions have provided unique insights into what it takes to ensure a smooth transition to electric vehicles. She has met personally with hundreds of EV drivers and dozens of community and civic groups. Since 2012, she has driven across the country and throughout California in various EVs.After training with former Vice President Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project (CRP), Carleen and Cool the Earth aligned with CRP to develop educational programs to inspire carbon reductions. The programs garnered awards from governmental and private organizations including the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, The Flora Foundation and The California Air Resource Board. Carleen is an expert speaker. She has captivated audiences at The Lawrence Berkeley Lab, the Behavior Energy and Climate Change Conference, Climate One at the Commonwealth Club, and the North American Association for Environmental Education. She has been featured globally by The Wall St. Journal, HBO’s series “Save Our Tomorrow,” “The Future of Energy” documentary, Sierra Club, and Treehugger, as well as in numerous regional magazines and newspapers. Carleen lives and works in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City. She and her husband Jeff have two grown children and a beloved rescue dog, Pip.

Carleen is the architect of Ride and Drive Clean, a consumer-facing collaborative campaign to accelerate EV adoption. She is an early adopter and recognized the critical need to educate drivers to help them overcome their barriers to shifting to driving electric. The campaign launched in 2019 and has seen immediate success in inspiring drivers to make the change. With innovative programs, such as the EV Discount Campaign and behavior-changing normative elements, the program has seen success throughout the country. The collaboration boasts over 100 partners, including nonprofits, cities, utilities, CCAs, membership organizations, auto OEMs and others.

Serving as an engaged leader and council member for the Oakland based Chabot Space and Science Center.
