An award-winning educator and producer, Carletta S. Hurt understands “it takes a village to raise a child.” Known for her resourcefulness and connecting students to resources, she has over two decades in education and non-profit work.Her nonprofit/community work includes program director for I Have A Dream – AD Williams and the Shandon Anderson Foundation and serving on several board of directors including the National Black MBA Association in Washington, DC and Atlanta. Carletta is also a dedicated K-20 educator currently working as a School Counselor for DC Public Schools in Washington, DC. In 2016, Carletta was named the DC School Counselor of the Year (SCOY) and in January along with other SCOY finalists, attended a White House gala with Michelle Obama for her formal recognition. Her youth development company, IN THE LOOP Program of Success, provides ongoing, engaging programs to empower, educate and elevate young people. Through ITL, she has developed four signature programs: GIRLS Empowerment Series, Booked for Review, BELLE Teen Magazine (coming late 2023), Bookmarked Teen Festival, and Coaching Connections (launching early 2024.As a producer, her work is in film/video and theatre under her company, IKAM Productions. Recently, IKAM Productions completed work on the short documentary, Clothed Minds, highlighting the work of black girls in DC Public Schools against biased dress code policies. Clothed Minds marked Carletta's directorial debut. Her latest project with producing partner, Victoria Rowell & Days Ferry Productions, is season four of The Rich & The Ruthless streaming exclusively on BET+.Her work on the stage spans two decades with her first theatre production, For Colored Girls Who Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf by Ntzoake Shange directed by Andrea Frye in 2005. Carletta would recreate the production under the direction of Jasmine Guy (her debut). Carletta is a member of Women in Film and Television - Atlanta (WIFTA), Women in Film - New York, and Women in Film & Video - Washington, DC (WIFV). Currently, she supports the work of the Documentary Producers Association (DPA) and is actively producing projects that focus on marginalized voices.
