Founder of the MN based dance company Black Label Movement, Carl Flink and BLM's awards include the UMN CLA 2020 Dean's Medal, two 2016 Regional Emmy Award nominations, a 2016 MN Sage Award nomination, 2015 Twin Cities StarTribune Best of MN, a 2014 MN Dance Community Sage Award, 2008 and 2012 McKnight Artist Fellowships for Choreography, and 2010 and 2012 MN Ivey Awards.Featured in Dance Magazine's January 2014 issue, Flink’s dancemaking is praised for its intense athleticism and humanistic themes. The 2014 American Dance Festival commissioned him and he was the movement creator for the Guthrie Theater's 2020 production of "Twelfth Night" and 2016 production of "The Parchman Hour." Other presenters/Commissioners include: Bates Dance Festival, Urbanity Dance (Boston, MA) TED, TEDMED, TEDx Brussels, TEDxMinneapolis, MADCO (St. Louis, MO), Theater Latté Da (Mpls, MN), the Chicago Humanities Festival, MN Orchestra, The Cowles Center for Dance (MN), Company C (San Francisco, CA), Same Planet Different World (Chicago, IL) and dance programs such as the Universities of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Utah, and North Texas. Flink's ongoing collaboration with biomedical engineer David Odde called The Moving Cell Project (MCP) has conducted a residency at the National Centre for Biological Sciences in Bangalore, India in May 2015, as well as, 2012 and 2013 residencies at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, MA. These residencies center around MCP's ongoing development of its "bodystorming" research technique. MCP has also generated 5 TED Talks including "A Modest Proposal: Dance v. Powerpoint" created with Science Magazine correspondent John Bohannon featured on TED.com.He is the UMN Jette Sween Professor of Dance. During the 1990s, Carl was a member of the Limón Dance Company in New York City. He holds a Stanford law School JD, a UMN Political Science and Women Studies B.A. summa cum laude and was a Farmers’ Legal Action Group, Inc. attorney (St. Paul, MN) from 2001-2004.

Featured in Dance Magazine's January 2014 issue, Flink’s dancemaking is noted for its intense athleticism and physical risk taking, compositional intelligence and humanistic themes for both contemporary dance and theater. He was a member the Limón Dance Company during much of the 1990s. His commissions and invited presentations include the American Dance Festival (Durham, NC), Bates Dance Festival (Lewiston, ME), The Minnesota Orchestra, MADCO (St. Louis, MO), University of Florida Performing Arts (Gainesville, FL), Same Planet Different World (Chicago, IL) and Urbanity Dance (Boston, MA), among many others. Carl has received significant recognition for his innovative collaborations with scientific researchers through his Moving Cell Project with University of Minnesota biomedical engineer David Odde and the creation of multiple embodied TED talks, including "Dance v. Powerpoint: A Modest Proposal" with John Bohannon. Odde and Carl's Bodystorming System, a rapid modeling technique using human bodies and choreographic strategies, has been highlighted by Science Magazine, Dance Magazine, Twin Cities Public Television’s Minnesota Original and TPT TV Takeover and TED Talks for TEDx Brussels and TEDMED 2013 (Washington D.C.).
