I have a passion for addressing problems or challenges perceived as complicated with a view to understanding what can be done, using the art of the possible. I believe that while solutions can be complex to achieve, they must be simple to use, as value is only delivered when a solution can be used by many different users in an organisation. My experience has been specialised around transmission assets. As technical lead I initiated and delivered the company strategy for Strategic Asset Management (SAM), a holistic approach delivering multiple technologies and techniques through a single, simple unified platform to meet the increasing challenges facing the energy industry. This was designed to enable risk and critical maintenance, risk mitigation, enhanced capability (ratings) and end-of-life management. I have broad experience in the various business areas of asset management; I spent 10 years within maintenance, based at the 2000MW HVDC link between England and France covering all primary assets including GIS and air blast Switchgear, Cables and Transformers. I then moved into to research within the High Voltage Test Laboratory covering design, failure modes and testing techniques, and eventually into asset engineering, leading on condition monitoring techniques and application. All through this period I have initiated and implemented innovation projects that are now mainstream business.Specialties: The main areas are: condition monitoring techniques and application, with particular areas of interest in Switchgear, Cables, GIC, solar storms, partial discharge, RFI, SF6 management, enhanced capability of assets.
