My name is Carlos and I’m 26 years old. Since a young age that my dream was to peruse a career as a researcher. Biology and the complexity of the human body was something that always captivated my attention. However there was a subject that I was always fascinated by, the nervous system. The complexity of the brain, the neuronal connections and how the underlying molecular mechanisms could lead to multiple neuronal functions was a captivating subject to me . For this reason, I decided to pursue a Master’s degree with a strong molecular and cellular component with a thesis focused on the Role Of Ube3a, a ubiquitin Ligase, in Angelman Syndrome (AS) and the implication of the subcellular localization in the molecular deficits found in AS patients.After this experience, I decided that my research focus would be synaptic plastic and how Dysfunctional plasticity could lead to neurodevelopmental disorders. Dysfunction of synaptic protein can lead to impairments in synaptic transmission and therefore cause alterations in the neuronal circuits and lead to cognitive/ intellectual disabilities. Thus, it is of great importance to understand the molecular mechanisms impaired to elevate the quality of life of those suffering from a wide number of neurological conditions.
