• Create, direct, and conduct engineering test procedures to assess product safety and to identify sources or causes of product malfunction or failure. • Develop technical requirements, test methodologies, and specifications for voluntary or mandatory product standards. • Test and evaluate products for potential, substantial and imminent hazards; and determine compliance with the organization's regulations, laws, and product standards.• Analyze in-depth investigations that include consumers, fire and police officials, as well as other knowledgeable officials and witness testimonies on product-related injuries and deaths.• Assess product specifications, manufacturer's testing and quality control procedures, product certification, and labeling. • Review petitions, prepare memoranda, and reports analyzing the product problem, and make technical recommendations for Commission consideration using risk-based decision criteria.
