Carlos began his career as an executive recruiter at Russell Reynolds Associates, working with high-level executives across mostly technology companies. In that role, he got to spend his days learning about all kinds of software, what every function of a company does, and what makes someone good at each kind of job. He also made a lot of spreadsheets.He went to business school to learn to be one of those tech people he always read about, but realized the only way to learn was by doing, so he started a company with a small investment from the school. That company, MakeRacket, was a platform similar to OnlyFans, which facilitated fan interaction with music artists and access to exclusive content. It was a good idea, and it seems to have worked out for OnlyFans. As part of that, he led community management and social marketing efforts on behalf of several Texas Country Music Band clients, and advised them on using analytics to align their digital marketing strategy with the goals of their business. He totally got to hang out backstage.He began his career in FinTech with Q2 (ebanking) software as a Product Manager. There, he fell in love with data, and earned his Data Dork card. He led two teams of developers to bring a behavioral insight and targeting engine to market. He also led the company's efforts to build better customer analytics and reporting. At NCR Digital Banking, he led the teams that built all the data connection infrastructure for NCR's Digital Banking platform. He can explain in excruciating detail how the banking app on your phone works, even if you didn't ask him to.At RiskScout Carlos led Product Development as well as sales efforts into new markets. This Austin-based startup makes automation software that helps financial services companies to comply with Anti-Money Laundering processes for emerging markets businesses like Cannabis and Crypto. It's about as interesting as banking compliance technology gets.Most recently, at Western Union, Carlos was responsible for building a consumer interface to purchase crypto currency as part of a startup group building a new online banking product. He owned delivering the user experience as well as the middleware and core infrastructure to support millions of users.Carlos joined the board of Farmshare Austin in 2020 and volunteered to take over Board Chair duties a year later. You can find him wandering the Farmshare fields asking which plants are vegetables and which are weeds.
