Undergraduate Research FellowUniversity Of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez Feb 2018 - May 2021Worked with Dr. Nilka Rivera Portalatin from the Department of Chemistry in a project titled: "Quantitative and Qualitative Evaluation of the Antioxidant Capacity of Different Cnidoscolus chayamansa (Chaya) Leaf Extracts." The project consists of uncovering the bioactivity of natural products derived from medicinal plants, such as Cnidoscolus chayamansa (Chaya), by using various biochemical assays such as Brine Shrimp Lethality Assay and DPPH free radical scavenging assay. We are interested in prospective chemical constituents that may serve as a reservoir for developing new therapeutic agents. -
Virtual Research InternUniversity Of Pennsylvania School Of Medicine Jun 2020 - Aug 2020I worked in reviewing the literature on the Alternative Lengthening of Telomeres (ALT) pathway, which is a telomere maintenance pathway used by 10-15% of cancers. Additionally, I focused on reviewing the role of RNA binding proteins and their interactions with a long-noncoding Telomeric repeat RNA (TERRA) within the context of ALT. -
Research InternUva Health System May 2019 - Jul 2019Virginia, United States Of AmericaWorked with Dr. Michael J. Guertin in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at the University of Virginia School of Medicine as part of the Summer Research Internship Program. The project consisted of using different computational models to analyze precision nuclear run-on sequencing data obtained from an acute lymphoblastic leukemia cell line after dexamethasone treatment. We were interested in studying the early response leading to apoptosis after glucocorticoid treatment. -
Research AssistantUniversity Of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus Jun 2016 - Aug 2016San Juan, Puerto RicoAs part of the STEP-UP (Short-Term Research Experience for Underrepresented Persons), I worked with Dr. Juan Carlos Jorge to develop a novel ultrasound-based measure of the liver among Diabetes Mellitus Type II patients.
