Carlos Patrão received an Electrical Engineering Master of Science (MSc) degree from the University of Coimbra. Currently he is a PhD student in the Sustainable Energy Systems (SES/EfS) doctoral program at the University of Coimbra under the MIT Portugal Program.Researcher, Consultant and Project Manager at the Institute of Systems and Robotics (ISR-UC) for 18 years, in the Intelligent Energy Systems Group. He has been involved in several European and International projects to promote energy efficiency in the residential, industry and building sectors.Carlos has experience in the organization and management of large-scale events, such as the “IEEE EPQU2011 International Conference”, where he was the Conference Manager and Member of the Steering and Scientific Committees.He has carried out extensive research in motor driven systems, elevators and escalators, electric vehicles, low power modes energy consumption, Smart Buildings and Cities and in lighting technologies.He was member of the University of Coimbra consultant team who helped in the preparation of the Portuguese Utility (EDP) Energy Efficiency measures to be submitted to the Portuguese Energy Efficiency Promotion Plan (DSM Programme), to be evaluated by the National Regulator (ERSE).He has performed energy audits in the residential, building and industry sector, having experience in the use of a wide range of metering technologies.He is the author and co-author of more than two dozen scientific publications in international conferences and journals.He was also the Head of Research and Innovation on a company that develops and manufactures equipments based on electronics and communications for Smart IoT infrastructures (Buildings and Cities).Specialties: Sustainable Development, DSM Programs, Energy Audits, Power Quality, Energy Efficiency, Solar Thermal, Renewable Energies, Motor Driven Systems, Lighting Technologies, Standby Energy Consumption, Smart Buildings and Smart Cities
