Born in Cleveland, Ohio to Puerto Rican parents, I grew up in a fusion of two languages and cultures. This unique perspective, in addition to my curiosity about language development and passion for working with children, led me to study Communication Disorders and eventually becoming a bilingual Speech Language Pathologist. In my first 6 years, I worked on a bilingual assessment team in Denver Public Schools in Colorado. There I supported teams in public and private schools with fostering language development through best teaching practices for students with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. In that time, I conducted over 500 Speech-Language evaluations of bilingual and monolingual Spanish speaking K-12 children and participated in the development of official guiding documents for the district referral process, including tools for collecting data on language development. After that I joined the international teaching community and spent 5 wonderful years working as a Learning Support Specialist at Academia Cotopaxi, an inclusive international school in Quito, Ecuador. I co-taught reading, writing, math, all through an inquiry approach. I implemented interventions such as Wilson Reading System, developed Individual Education Plans, guided the RTI process, taught vocabulary, social skills, and supported positive behavior, among many other things; all while studying inclusive leadership courses, trail running in the beautiful Andes mountains, cooking, and salsa dancing... just to name a few!Currently I am in my first year at Colegio Nueva Granada, an international school in Bogota, Colombia. I am a co-teacher in 2nd grade and am looking forward to transitioning into a full time Speech Language Pathologist role next school year.
