I joined Pierce County Planning and Public Works department as their first Grant Coordinator. Over the last two years I've implemented LEAN principles to the Pierce County's grant process to establish not only this new positions role in the organization, but to identify the strengths and weaknesses of their grant program. I'm responsible for developing and writing reports on grant opportunities, legislative affairs and past trends to assist in making strategic decisions on capital funding. I assist the division in obtaining grant funding to support water quality, habitat restoration, flood protection projects which meet the department’s mission. To date, SWM has brought in over $30 million in grant revenue since the inception of this position and is on track to become one of the most prolific integrated floodplain management entities in the Northwest. This position at Pierce County has evolved into a critical role which establishes a point person for Federal, State and local agencies within SWM. I enjoy the networking and relationship building that comes with this position and have made several fantastic contacts throughout the Federal and State government systems. I've enjoyed evolving as a professional along with this position and look forward to the next opportunity.

I implemented and evaluated a behavior change program for unincorporated Pierce County residents on behalf of Pierce County Surface Water Management division Natural Yard Care program. This program encouraged Pierce County residents to use alternative methods and reduce pesticide use in their yard care routines. I coordinated a multi-jurisdictional project team to evaluate and further develop the Natural Yard Care program as part of the County's obligations to the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit.After a 6-month implementation period we evaluated the programs behavior change effectiveness and cost-benefit ratio. It was determined that the program was highly effective in changing behavior, but otherwise too costly for the number of residents the program was able to reach. After my AmeriCorps service term ended, Pierce County used my program evaluation to reinvent the program into a much more cost effective program that reached a broader audience. In addition to the Natural Yard Care program, I provided the Washington State University Master Gardeners with social media campaign support. We developed a multi-media marketing strategy that improved original website traffic by over 200 percent within 30 days using Instagram, Facebook and print materials.

It is a brilliant marketing technique that uses the Encore Real Estate website as a portal for clients to find contractors and other professionals that are guaranteed by Encore to provide stellar service. This was a massive project that consumed 80+ internship hours. - Working experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher..etc)- Working experience with Adobe Photoshop- Compiling client information into an attractive flyer via professional printing sites- Entering raw client house statistics and school zone information into Multiple Listing Services (MLS)- Updating client information on multiple real estate networking sites (Trulia, Zillow, Postlets, Craigslist...etc)- Being a responsible and professional representative of the company in and out of the office

My primary goal in the Murrow Backpack Environmental program is to profile and showcase the groundbreaking scientific research of a specific WSU graduate student, in the form of a five minute video. This summer I am documenting salmon recovery research in Hancock Springs, a small tributary of the Columbia River. I hope to utilize this experience with Sony camera equipment and Adobe video production software in my future career.
