In several board and professional roles Carmel has held, she has been responsible for the re-positioning of organisations; driving change and the facilitation of the strategic planning processes - ensuring implementation and delivery within set time-frames. Carmel introduced the first collaboration of its kind in Australia between the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) and the University of South Australia, with the embedding of the Company Directors Course in the MBA program. During her tenure as the Chief Executive Officer of the Kangaroo Island Council (KIC) the Council received the inaugural unqualified audit which enabled the Council to have more significant discussions with the Government of the day. One of the outcomes was the implementation of the K I Futures Authority (KIFA) which resulted predominately in the KI Airport upgrade and funding for KIC managed roads. She was also tasked with the repositioning of Institute of Public Administration Australia (IPAA) within the SA public sector and the future sustainability of the Adelaide University Union (AUU) at the University of Adelaide. During the last 25 years she has sat on many boards and committees. During her tenure at the AICD her role involved her working with and assisting many boards across South Australia and the Northern Territory. She ran as a candidate for the City of Adelaide 2022 elections, and was elected no 1 in Central Ward and therefore is currently a City of Adelaide Councillor. In summary, Carmel offers an excellent mix of strategic, tactical, innovative, resourceful and creative experience which, when combined with personal energy, enthusiasm, passion and commitment has delivered results, often exceeding expectations. She strives for gold standard culture and governance practices and her forte is bringing people together to find common purpose.
