Prof. Carmel Rotchild is the Co-Founder and Scientific Director of LAVA (former name Luminescent), a start-up that leverages isothermal technology to turn heat into zero-emission electricity. He's also an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Head of the Laboratory for Excitonics at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology.Prior to Luminescent, Carmel was the Co-Founder and Scientific Director of Real View Imaging, a pioneering start-up in the medical holography field.Prof. Rotchild received his Ph.D. from the Technion, Faculty of Physics.Research interests:Nonlinear optics in small molecules; Nano-photonics; Organic-electronics;Thermodynamics of light, Engineering of thermal radiation.Relevant applications:Optical heat pumps; Solar powered micro-lasers; Nano-scale optical devices; Nonlinear optics in incoherent light for solar applications; Up-conversion of thermal radiation.For his discovery of conservation rule in photo-luminescence and its potential application in solar energy, he won the ERC starting grant and the Krill Prize
