About Carmel Wallace

I am a practising sculptor and printmaker, exploring our connection to place in the context of environmental awareness and ethics. I gained a PhD in this field from Deakin University in 1999. In addition to group exhibitions in Australia and overseas, I have held 18 solo exhibitions include 7 at Melbourne's renowned Gallery 101 in Collins Street, Melbourne. I have received several awards and have been shortlisted for many others, including the Blake, Wynne and Waterhouse Prizes. My sculpture has been selected for Sculpture by the Sea, the Lorne Sculpture Biennial, and the Montalto Sculpture Prize among others. My artwork is held in the National Gallery of Australia and in other major public and private collections.I have undertaken public commissions and major projects, most recently a multi-state and territory arts project staged as part of the Centenary of Canberra celebrations. Complementing my art practice with teaching, writing and curating, I have held lecturing positions at Deakin University and The University of the Sunshine Coast, and curated exhibitions shown in Melbourne and New York. http://carmelwallace.com
